Anim8or v0.98 Discussion Forum / Re: Edge extrude suggestion
« on: October 27, 2008, 06:33:51 am »
I always love the edge extrusion 3d studio max, its my main modeling tool there.. Whenever i model in anim8or i use it heaps as well, so yes an improvement on that would be awesome!

heh yea that was rendered in anim8or, an no HDRI maps are not supported (yet) unfortunately.. I made a big sphere with a cubemap on it around the scene, and have two white emissive blocks that make out the white reflections. Just some tricks to make it look like a HDRI, but of course since there is no GI it can never come close :P

Yea nice materials.. i made a test render as well.. the difference are a bit less evident in mine though.. I hope there will be more options soon like Fresnel reflections!

Anim8or v0.98 Discussion Forum / Re: ART v0.97b cubemap error
« on: June 13, 2008, 03:57:20 am »
I got the same error on your file.. So, instead of using a cubemap as an environment I put a large sphere around the object, with a cubemap on it as environmental map.. that worked, as you can see in the attachment.

But when I tried to add a surface under the car, anim8or crashed again.. I'm not sure whats wrong

Plus, of course, the shadows are buggy :P

nah these scores were just from one game, starting at 0. i figured it mustve been an error because it went faster on intermediate, and then slower on suicide, that cant be good. And yes, as hihosilver said, having the score run backwards faster might help too.

This is going to be a classic hahaha

The way to get a high score like that is just to only hit white ones, so maybe you will want to do something about that.. its way too easy to just look where the white one is and click it, it will accumulate quite quickly then.

(got a score of 2114292 now.. couldnt see half of the digits ;) )

533
I got 421728 on lower intermediate! is that good ? :P nice game btw.. addictive haha

Btw, with a high score like that, the text box for the score seems a bit too small, the first and last digit get cut off..

Anim8or v0.98 Discussion Forum / Re: can there be advanced mirroring?
« on: April 15, 2008, 02:35:40 am »
would be even better if the mirror side adjusted to the changes you make in the object in real time, so you can see the result of your actions right away, but this is probably a bit difficult :P

Oh since we're doing suggestions I have another thing on my list (keeps gettin longer for you steve probably) : fresnel reflections. I dont know if thats difficult but since you also have fresnel refractions i tought maybe it wouldnt be too hard to do that.

Thanks guys!

My computer is a amd athlon 5000+ core duo with 2 gb ram.. even though anim8or only uses one of them.. 9,5 hour is a bit much.. (i did have the aa on 36 subdivisions)

I'm sure there will be a whole new level of anim8or renders now! looking forward to seeing them all!

Congrats on finishing that cube animation mcheccyb, i saw it on the org forum!

Finished Works and Works in Progress / ART test render
« on: March 22, 2008, 05:05:42 am »
Reflections! Yay! Thats what we've been waiting for. Therefor I made a testrender of some headphones i modeled some time ago, with reflections using the new Art system.

I also used a cubic environment to simulate Hdri, I placed two planes with a white emessive value of 1 above the object so it looks like they are windows or something similar.

I am not happy about the shadows. I made the main shadow sharp because of render times, the render time now was 9,5 hours, I'm not sure how long that wouldve been if i made soft shadows.
Also , i had placed another light source on the other side, which i had set to not giving shadows, but it still does give a shadow unfortunately! Ah well.

I think this render looks a lot more professional than anim8or did before, the new reflections are a great addition! Some GI and it would look awsome! (but im not complaining ;) )

hey DoctorStopMo, I have seen this before I think, it looks real good! As hihosilver said, I would like to see a wireframe aswell.. I'm sure it looks inicredible.
About the x-ray view.. I agree it doesn't look much like one.. But making that in anim8or is probably near impossible..

a quick search on wikipedia:

Anyway I really like what you have so far.. and I hope we can see more of it!

Alright, make sure you have the guy set to cast and recieve shadows, but also the floor set to recieve shadows. Then make sure you have a light that casts shadows . if it doesnt work then, go to View > Preferences and under the File Output make sure 'shadows' is checked.

Regarding the model: its nothing too exciting really, selecting all faces and extruding them a little bit is not really something we all come here for. if you'd try making the body more anatomilcally correct or so it might get some more appreciation!
