Anim8or v0.98 Discussion Forum / Re: Next full version?
« on: January 31, 2009, 04:17:34 pm »
I would actually wonder more what is the requirement for something to not be a preview version. I mean I can understand if you dont want to drop hints about new features but the fact that there hasnt been a full version release for like 6 or so versions kinda makes one wonder which version is best to use. I'm STILL using .95 because .96 and .97 are supposedly lacking something that makes them more stable.

The requirements for a program not to be a preview would simply be one that works without any complications or bugs, and well tested for stability, ect. These types of programs are generally thought out long before developement, and consists of a team, with deadlines, ect.

This program is Steven's "pet project". His aim is to make it functional, and add new things all the time. It helps him gain proficiancy in programming, along with experimentation and just having fun. He does his best to debug, and supply a decent interface - though admittingly it's not quite as fun as creating new toys to play with and suprize his admirers with.

There are quite a few things that Steven has to deal with within OS and graphic cards- moreso now than when he started this program, which is why there has been some stability issues. It's pretty much unavoidable when you are "doing it on your own". It's usually the "trial and error" routine.

Lately Ive been playing around with something called Incredibots found of course at It allows you to construct and make movies of little machines you create, with interesting controllers..This done all in 2d. I wonder if steve could incorporate something like this physics engine into anim8or , or at least it's controlers for animation.

Though I agree an artist doesnt stick to one tool, we don't need to talk about spraypaint in a paintbrush society ;)

In anim8or, not that I am aware of. But I do recall seeing a couple good general tutorials on walk cycles.

x file, or create your own loader.

A combination of texturing along key polys, and properly built morphs should be more than sufficiant. All the extra poly count is unneccisary.

Anim8or v0.98 Discussion Forum / Re: Console input for scripts
« on: December 25, 2008, 06:06:36 pm »
Steve, my inexperience in c++ along with the slowly rusting programming knowledge I do have has forgotten that closing the dos console acts as the entire program.
Unless there is a specific reason for using the dos interface that we are unaware of, perhaps it would be better to create one that will close, as a child of anim8or. ( yeah, time consumption... if I had the time, I'd create it for you )

Duh. Shows how much I know. Anyway. An engine is an engine. Be it for complex rendering or simplistic Gaming. Anim8or's intended purpose is within the realm of animation. We don't need a second engine. It would take too much of Steve's time. Take blender and stuff it.

Guess I'll add a simple suggestion here while the Console is the subject.

I'd like the ability to turn off the Console without anim8or also closing ;)
maybe Im just being nit-picky.

Looks Very cool. good luck with your game :)

Looks cool until you watch the movie. Looks like it's afraid it might break it's body or something LOL
Great start none-the-less.

Wow, lots of ideas! I just neerd a plan now.
At the time I made that tree I couldn't find a very high quality image to use. I personally didn't like the blur myself. I guess I'll have to find a better one. I'm also trying to think of a better way than just a transmap, but am coming up a little short of ideas. Guess I'm addicted to realism. :P
I'm sure I'll think of something.
