Hmm, sounds interesting... I might just enter

This is how I always think about it:

Long distance or a game = texturing over modelling
Closer distance or a movie (unless at long range) = modelling over textures.

Still, both are made to go together and you cant have one that is naff and the other great... they must compliment each other

I do agree... but then it is the people who read the stickies who write sensible titles.

Maybe a bit under the title box saying 'Make your title relevant to the thread' or something like that... where it isnt as avoidable.

I chose to just plain and simply plane model it. I made an extremely thin cuboid and then just point edited it so that the points are just not quite going through the body (so it fits to the model) and subdivided it... Here is the character so far:

I am just trying to make the leather in the jacket show up a bit better... the skin is an image from google which has been tiled a plenty... so is the purple shirt. 98seconds to render with raytraced shadows. Man, volume is so much quicker but still has a few kinks that need sorted :(

Hope you like it so far. About 5mb for the character and I still need a bomb of scenery to do... and the figure. yikes.

I too would be fairly interested... that is if the main things (like characters or whatever) are supplied. I can do some scenery or backgrounds should you need them

PM me if interested. I have MSN if you would like to talk about it (PM me for address)

I am building a character but the character has a shirt... and I really cant think of how to model this whatsoever. I have used makehuman to create the figure but thereafter I am stuck.

Does anyone have any idea how to creat a shirt like here: http://static.tramdock.com/images/items/medium/QKS1154/ABL.jpg

Or, does anyone have a free download of one that is fairly similar?

Over the top of the shirt will be a long jacket/coat thing, a leather one, because those are cool, but equally I dont know how I would model the torso/arm bit.

Any help/downloads for either?

I'm not a noob at anim8or, but some models just really confuse me when I try to build them.

Cheers

'Some help'

That doesnt help you, nor us.

If you want help, then you should provide relevant details- how doesnt it work? What happens etc

You could also, to save polys and maybe a bit of time, just texture it to look twisted. Adding a bumpmap of the 'twist' could make it look quite realistic and save on polys.

General Anim8or Forum / Re: help! how do i make a room.
« on: January 05, 2008, 08:05:38 am »
I dont mean to be mean, but its not a hard task... look at the object you are trying to create and then see the shapes that make it.

A room is like 4 or more walls right? So make 4 cuboids and then rotate them to join up. A floor? Well thats another cuboid or plane... the ceiling is the same. For a window you will need to cut out the shape to make it work... add some divisions to the windowed wall and convert it to a mesh, then in point edit mode delete the points to create a hole. Use cuboids to create the window frame

For a door you will probably have to give a cuboid some divisions and then extrude certain bits and model a handle.

But really, just look at the object you are trying to create and then see what forms up to make it.

Oh, are you the same person who has the problem that I do?

Basically when drawing a selection box it onion skins it... The box leaves a white line every bit of movement and it looks like this:

I cant vouch for Citrus, but I am using a nVidia 8600GTS on vista home premium. I think the same happened on my ATI card.

Thanks Kreator, but I do prefer to do my own projects... Ive seen all too many other peoples' projects starting to fail and then just die out... And I like to do it at my speed anyway.

Mak, Hmm, could do.

I think I need to get my anim8or sorted out first anyway. Whenever I draw selection boxes it shows them as if it is every frame... annoying.

Its the Christmas holidays and I have plenty of time on my hands.... I am thinking of doing something Anim8or, but I cant think what.

Anyone got any ideas for a project?

I don't like using humans or things, rigging and all that just doesnt gel with me so I would prefer to do something that doesnt involve humans or animals or animate beings. I do like doing buildings, structures and a few easy vehicles.

Im not a noob at anima8or or 3D work, I just havent really gotten into a project that Ive wanted to go all the way with.

So any ideas? Just shoot them at me

Cheers

General Anim8or Forum / Re: How bout' an anim8or book?
« on: December 29, 2007, 09:39:09 am »
I'm only being truthful but... Anim8or isn't a highly developed system compared to other 3D programs... There arent that many functions and they are easy to use. There is no need for a book as there isnt enough to cover.

Besides, we have manuals, tutorials and a friendly forum- who needs a book?
