There are many free texture repositories. My favorite one is cgtextures.com

This is not how shape scripts work...

Do the following to install a shape script:
  • Put all your scripts into one folder.
  • Go to the "File > Configure" menu and fill the "Scripts" field with the folder where you have all the scripts.
  • Make sure the "Preload scripts" checkbox is checked.
  • Click OK, restart Anim8or.

Now you should see several extra buttons in the left pannel (right under the "sphere", "cylinder", "cube" etc. buttons). Each of the new buttons represents one of the shape scripts you have installed. Click the button and create a shape just like you would create a sphere.

You can double-click the newly created shape to edit its parameters... And that's all :)

Hello Tetiro and welcome to the community!

Unfortunately you can't export an UV map directly from Anim8or. You have to export your model, use an external software (such as UVmapper) to create and export the UV map and then import the UV-mapped model back to Anim8or.

Once you create a texture, you can load the texture from the material editor and apply it (this is described in the manual: http://www.anim8or.com/manual/10_materials.html#texture_selector)

Congratulations headwax!

I'm glad there were so many great entries, it was not easy to choose the best one ;)

Good luck everybody in the next round!

The poll was re-opened and it will run for 3 more days. If you have already voted, your vote still counts and you don't have to vote again.

I'm sorry it took so long to me to fix this, I was out of the city...

A new version is out!

ASL Editor has done a huge step forward. There are several new features and I rewrote half of the original code from scratch, that's why it took so long...

The most important changes are:
  • Improved performance - no more jerky scrolling, no more text-redraw delays...
  • Improved the auto-complete function
  • New Syntax Checker function (still far from perfect, but quite useful!)
  • A help file included
  • Several bugs fixed

Czech, French and Spanish translations are included (thanks a lot to Paulo and dajean)

Download link

Any feature requests, questions and bug reports are welcome!

One of the most useful features (from my point of view) is the ability to add your own description to user-declared variables. This description will be displayed in the yellow infobox which is displayed when you move your mouse over a variable name or when auto-completing a variable name. It really helps when you are working on a long script... See the help file for a detailed information about this feature.

The following image shows how the custom description of variables and the syntax checker work:

Good idea! To be honest, I've been thinking about a feature like that... I'll add it to the list!

Thank you very much Paulo! The translation will be included in the next release (wait just a few days! ;))

And I just realized the sugnificance of the due date of this contest. 'Tis the 40th anniversary of the Appolo 11 moon landing.

Wow, that's cool! I didn't know about that  ;D

Great work everybody so far. I should start working on mine soon... Why am I so lazy? >:(

ummmm...

it says "still scene"... why not something animated? see... this sort of scene just begs for someone to use GIMP, or PhotoShop... not anim8or, to produce something.... doesn't it?

The advantage of this topic is that it's as difficult as you make it.

If you decide to model the Earth and the Moon, than you'll definitely spend most of the time working on the textures in Photoshop/Gimp, because all you need to do in Anim8or is to create the 2 spheres... However, if you decide to create a fully detailed model of the International Space Station, then I believe you'll use Anim8or more than enough! It's just what you make it ;)

does the scene have to be in outer space? or can it be from inside a ship?
How much of the image has to be "Space"?
And what constitutes "Space"?

Just do whatever you want! If the scene is inside a ship, it should be obvious that the ship is somewhere in the space (a space ship that is standing on the runway definitely doesn't count for a space scene!).

Ok, now what does it mean "to be somewhere in the space"?

Here is a nice Wikipedia definition:
Quote
Outer space (often simply called space) comprises the relatively empty regions of the universe outside the atmospheres of celestial bodies. Outer space is used to distinguish it from airspace and terrestrial locations.

That's it. Just try to focus on those "relatively empty regions of the universe" ;)

Challenge #6: Space scene

The task is simple: create and render a space scene.

It can be anything you want - a detailed model of our solar system, a sci-fi spaceship fight or Neil Armstrong walking on the moon... Everything is allowed as long as it can be called a "Space scene".

You can use any software you want for minor tasks (such as texturing or post-production), but most of the modeling and the final render must be done in Anim8or.

Your final entry should be one still image. Judging will be based on the best looking Anim8or render, the one who gets the most votes wins.

Post your progress, c&c, and/or final renders in this topic!

Deadline: Monday, July 20th, 2009

Thank you for your feedback Jdez!

That text-redraw error is definitely a bug, I added it to the list. Bug reports, as well as feature suggestions are always welcome. Thanks once more!
