rendering problem
« on: January 09, 2008, 10:06:29 pm »

Hi, I'm a noob here. I've been using Anim8or for almost a week now. I've made an animation using a tutorial. The problem is that I can't render it. I click render and it goes to the movie spec editor screen. I named it, then press "ok". It makes it to the video compression screen, but after I've selected and pressed ok, it shows up with "Anim8or has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience..." I've tried messing with a few things, but It does that every time without fail! What do I do?

That can happen if you don't have the proper codec installed.  For instance, one of the most popular codecs for creating compressed videos is DivX, and you can download a free version of te codec at www.divx.com.

On the other hand, especially once you start rendering lengthy animations, you should consider rendering out the individual frames as JPEG files, which you later composite with a program like VirtualDub ( available FREE at http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/ ).  One of the primary reasons for doing this is that you can make adjustments to portions of your animation and re-render images of just that portion.  Secondly, if your computer crashes for some reason, you can start up again where it left off, whereas if you render out directly to a video, you'll have to render the whole thing over (and risk another crash).

Hope this helps.

I downloaded DivX and it still doesn't work. Maybe it's just because I'm a clueless noob.

^Yup. That's the problem! The computer I was using was a little too old for anim8or so I used a flash drive to put it on a different computer and it worked fine. Thanx!
