What I am trying to do is insert the small dish shape into the face of the bigger circle.
As per the ortho view; the window surround needs to be filled as the small dish is going to be a window so I need to make a hole to insert it.
I can't find a tut anywhere and I've scanned the manual.
Can someone please help me?

To be honest, I don't realy understand..

I can see your mesh there and the dish inside. Because of the top face in the orho view dish is not visible. Is the dish sepatate mesh? If so, delete the top face, join solids (select both meshes and Build->Join solids) and create new edges from dish sides to circle sides (I used your pic ). Then Fill holes with new faces (select four edges and Edit->Fill Holes).

it looks like you have the shape you want from the wireframes, but the shaded ortho view is wrong. You have an extra face 'covering' the hold you want (the dish).

so go to point editing (the 3 dots near the top), face select mode (it's a small triangle, near the x,y,z select boxes), pick the 'pointer' tool, click on the face and delete.

as vobla said, the 'dish' and 'circle' might be separate objects, so if simple deleting the face doesn't work you might need to merge the objects and / or reverse some normals.

If both of the faces have the same number of points, you can simply use the bridge tool.  Try selecting the top faces of both objects and pressing '=' or go 'Edit>Bridge'

Personally, I would draw a contour, tracing one half of the object's cross section, then apply the Lathe tool, to rotate the contour around the Y dimension (vertical) and creating the mesh you want from the outset.  This method creates as complicated a shape as you could ever want, extremely quickly, so long as it is axially symmetrical.
