hello,
    does anybody know where i could get some tutorials on modeling lowpoly trees and foliage?

Check this tutorial:

I've used it once to model a tree and it works alright. It shows the box-modeling method using a subdivision shape. The tutorial is for 3DS Max, but you can do the same in Anim8or...

foliage is somehow more difficult to do in Anim8or... I suggest trying NickE's plugin... Or you can copy-paste it all by hand...

Mongoose on the old Anim8or.org had posted a free program called TreeMaker that had been abandoned by its writer.  It allows one to make low (or high) poly trees, bushes, flowers, etc.  I've used it a bit.
