It's a long time since I posted a still image because of my current big project but after all the rust and grime with the rust challenge I wanted to see something refreshing.

Here it is, two dolphins frolicking in the sea under the rays of a setting sun

Dolphin(s) modeled in Anim8or but scene rendered in Vue because of the water.
(My apologies Steve, once water comes to Anim8or it won't happen again   .)

very nice Lynn I especially like the water droplets, adds a sense of realisim!!

Maybe yopu could use some distance haze?

Among clues to monocular depth perception are reduced contrast and reduced hue saturation etc. It would make the dolphins stand  out a lot more and place them in 3d space. Perhaps

also the light in the sky and the landscape is quite warm but not repeated on the dolphins and the h2o.

This is about the most haze I can get away with, anything more and it scatters the sunlight too much.

well spotted. I forgot to set the boost light color at the same temperature as the sunlight

The one in the water shows a light shadow, for the one jumping; the sun is too low and the fish too high to show a shadow on the near surroundings.

I love it!  The composition is really nice, it makes the whole picture so easy to look at.  I love the lighting!!  I agree with Headwax about the difference in color temp though.  The sky and the sand look so warm but the dolphins look like are being lit by a much whiter light.  I'm not sure what could have made the colors look better but I didn't really notice it 'till Headwax pointed it out anyway, so it still looks really good.

The only thing that stands out for me is the shadow on the dolphins should be darker.  I think this is more a personal preference that a technical thing, but the shadow on the grass in the sand seems pretty dark and is facing the camera because there is so much backlighting with the sun so low, it seems there should be more shadow facing the camera on the dolphins.  But like I said, that's just a personal preference.  

You've done a great oceanscape that two dolphins jumped into and became the stars of!  The water looks great, the dolphins are having a blast, the grass in the foreground ties the whole picture together with the sun in the background...I love it!  Great job!

Let me correct my previous statement.  The shadows on the dolphins ARE dark enough, I just thought the shadows should cover more of the dolphin's body.  But again, just a personal preference.

The more I look at this scene the more I like it.  You can see the warm colors reflecting in the water,  that helps the scene a lot.  Again, great job.

Nice work as usual Lynn great attention to detail.
It may be just me or my laptop but the dolphins look a little too large for the suposed depth of water.

There is very, very little I can pick on with this image Lynn22, as usual your work is just beautiful.  I have a personal predilection for the "lens flare" effect, and I probably would have dropped it onto the sun in this image, just making it seem a little brighter and more glarey (is glarey a word... more glare... you know what I mean).  The sun seems just a touch muted to produce the shadows of the grass.

I think the shadows on the water are fine the way they are, shadows work in strange ways on reflective surfaces, especially uneven ones like the surface of water.  The dolphin models are excellent, the overall composition is solid and very well laid out, and I like how the colours are repeated in unexpected ways (the colour of the beach and sunset sky, the colour of the dolphins and the sky at the horizon).  It makes a very satisfying image to look at, and you should be very proud.  Great work!

I shall experiment with the lens flare, which will be a first, and yes, I am quite proud of this image.
