[ COMPLETE ] Challenge #6: Space scene
« on: July 05, 2009, 05:23:37 pm »

Challenge #6: Space scene

The task is simple: create and render a space scene.

It can be anything you want - a detailed model of our solar system, a sci-fi spaceship fight or Neil Armstrong walking on the moon... Everything is allowed as long as it can be called a "Space scene".

You can use any software you want for minor tasks (such as texturing or post-production), but most of the modeling and the final render must be done in Anim8or.

Your final entry should be one still image. Judging will be based on the best looking Anim8or render, the one who gets the most votes wins.

Post your progress, c&c, and/or final renders in this topic!

Deadline: Monday, July 20th, 2009

ummmm...

it says "still scene"... why not something animated? see... this sort of scene just begs for someone to use GIMP, or PhotoShop... not anim8or, to produce something.... doesn't it?

Oooh, I'm gonna try my hardest to join this, does the scene have to be in outer space? or can it be from inside a ship?

How much of the image has to be "Space"?
And what constitutes "Space"?

HOpefully i'll be able to join this, If not, i'll join the next one closest to my summer holls in about 2 1/2 weeks

The advantage of this topic is that it's as difficult as you make it.

If you decide to model the Earth and the Moon, than you'll definitely spend most of the time working on the textures in Photoshop/Gimp, because all you need to do in Anim8or is to create the 2 spheres... However, if you decide to create a fully detailed model of the International Space Station, then I believe you'll use Anim8or more than enough! It's just what you make it ;)

Just do whatever you want! If the scene is inside a ship, it should be obvious that the ship is somewhere in the space (a space ship that is standing on the runway definitely doesn't count for a space scene!).

Ok, now what does it mean "to be somewhere in the space"?

Here is a nice Wikipedia definition:
Quote
Outer space (often simply called space) comprises the relatively empty regions of the universe outside the atmospheres of celestial bodies. Outer space is used to distinguish it from airspace and terrestrial locations.

That's it. Just try to focus on those "relatively empty regions of the universe" ;)

Suppose we create a space coloney on the moon or mars or something. Does that still count as space?

I think this should clear up the "space" questions: As far as I know, as long as "space" is showing somewhere in the scene, and the overall idea is something other than earth, then yes, I'd say it counts. But that's just me. ;)

Also, I forgot, my DVD drive works, so maybe I'll get to show a WIP soon. :)

I don't think you can post videos for your entry...

Also, that prehistoric comp looks fun! I'll try to join this time!
News: My sis got the drives to work again, it was only going to take a minute, but I'm too lazy... J/k She wanted to do it.

So I can give you guys WIPs now. :)

Hey, that´s a great idea for a challenge, even if most people have already a space scene done (at least 60% of the artwork shown in the forum is space related  :D ). Anyway, I´ll try to join the challenge, and I hope to be able to finish my scene this time. I´ve already started with the first model...

By the way, thanks for the 2 votes I get on the previous challenge. I didn´t deserve it...  :P

I don´t mind to be confused with Kreator. I wish I had his style, hehe  ;D

Anyway, Ratticis, my Sputnik is going to be only a small part of the (intended) scene, so probably yours will be awesome. In fact, I did´nt look for info about it, only one picture! I don´t want to make a perfect scale and textured Sputnik, only the general idea everybody has about it...
