Re-New-Hill Terraform Corp. 'JakeArts'
« on: September 11, 2009, 06:16:24 am »

I am creating a 'BIG' batch of building models.
A planetary colonization firm named RE-NEW-HILL.
I will first focus on Mars colonization buildings and if all things go well, maybe expand.
The first one is a small housing unit, wich is almost done. (only a wee bit of texturing left)
This unit is interlockable, you can set down a single unit or lock together blocks of 2-32.
Or 2 blocks of 32 with a municipal hub inbetween. (next to be created)

All the hallways, stairs, plumbing, pipes, wires ect. are housed in the darker blue area and all interlock.
So no matter how many units are hooked together, it all works as one system and every units will be
accessable from the walkways (Ports)

Obviously, we cant build, on this scale, on mars yet because it is too costly
to sent up raw building materials; everything would be made of prefab moduals.
But thats not very fun to make so i will asume that the space elivator has been built
on earth and mars, making it cost effective to build the buildings on mars rather then earth.
This will show on one of my next buildings (medium Housing stack).
As this small housing unit is not a modual but it is a prefab unit the MHS will be nothing of
the sort, very much more building-like.

That's weird I can't see any photos... What format are your pictures. Or do you have none and I'm missing something? maybe I just need to update my browser... Sounds cool though!

Looking good, only crit is that in the pictures the building looks a bit too plasticky, and slightly like a pc hard drive. nice work, can't wait to see more!

Nice concept Jakearts, they look very new maybe too new and would look a little more realistic with some subtle dirt / grunge  textures. Add some leaking pipe or vent textures to areas of the service duct (Dark blue) areas and even some worn out bits on the corners of each unit.
Still great work looking forward to seeing more.

Well not to put too fine a point on it, 3D Joe Wiltshire, but they are plastic or more like a plexiglass alloy.
Well I had the same thoughts the first time I saw the pic but it is actually just poor rendering. There are some subtle textures you cant see like a patchwork rivet pattern over the whole thing. If I put it on some red ground and set the propor lighting, it would look right.

Thanks, it seems you showed me that I need to make a chunk of mars before continuing.
