Custom GUI - limited
« on: September 15, 2009, 02:52:47 am »

I know this is probably a "girl thing" but I would like to be able to set custom colors in the GUI.  The GUI is functional but seriously limited on style. I would like to see a bit more color. White edges and white verticies is like too much white and black.  The background is a neutral blue but I like working on neutral gray.

I am having no problem grasping the hotkeys or menu buttons but isn't there a way to make your own custom hotkeys or way the mouse interacts to the GUI? If not in this one maybe the next release?

Cool ideas, I like them. I've always wanted to change the blue background, also. And the GUI, maybe. too. =]

Yes, I suppose that the GUI could do with an update, so long as everything stays in the same places.

Excellent idea wacky blend, a customisable workspace would be a great idea.

I just started making some buttons but got bored. I wonder if Visual Basic can edit Anim8or, I used it once to edit Word, and it worked.

What about an 'expert mode', a fullscreen mode without any menu items? My screen is big enough, but for people with smaller screens that might come in handy .. if they know all the short keys (maybe some more items should get hot keys for that first though..)

If the blue background really bugs you, you could just add a large plane to the background, move it back out of the way, and make it any colour you want. (its only 8 points for the plane, and nothing to accidentally select in the work area).
Just a thought, if it really bugs you.

Personally, i think the anim8or GUI is 'iconic', and it grows on you. I'd rather that Steve spend his time on 'functionallity', rather than 'Asthetics'.

Theres a good amount of hotkeys already.Once you use them a bit, thier placing and purpose all works out very well.
Sorry if i'm sounding like a wet blanket. ;)

Nah you're not being a wet blanket.  Like I said, I just moved in and I am a bit spoiled by Blender. I really get tired of noobs to Blender saying the GUI sucks, when they are just not reading the material available.  I didn't want to come in saying the same thing being a noob having somebody say, "duh read the manual.".

Not that the GUI sucks, but to put it politely as possible, you can tell a man designed it.  Kind of the same as if you walk into a guy's apartment. LOL

To be honest, Blender is not a good example of improving the Anim8or GUI. I really hate the Blender GUI.

Oh, let's not get started on that, Blender GUI is simply what you make of it. I have had so many noobs look at the GUI for five or ten minutes and go, "Yuck!". I applaud the Anim8or for its simple GUI but it is 'locked' and sterile. Like working in someone else's kitchen or garage and you can't put tools where you want them.  That's all I am saying.  You can't bash Blender's GUI because obviously you didn't give it a shot.  If I had a dime for everytime I read someone's post, "I don't like selecting by right clicking." I would be a rich girl. :D If you don't like it change it. The GUI can be anything you make it.

I didn't come here to say that one GUI is better than another.  I just was saying I like the ability to customize my GUI.  I just wanted to know if it was possible or not.  I was informed it wasn't and suggested that if it wasn't I thought it should be an option.
