Some minor questions

So far I did some tutorials successfully,Egg plant was a piece of cake. I made the bird walk. But I exported one of my old models from Blender to obj and imported to Anim8or and the textures didn't go. So now I am up to UV editing and the way you do this confuses me. 

I am used to working on a UV map and Steve has some kind of a UV ring????  To be honest I never saw this method. My textures seem to be projected on to the model and not UV Mapped.  If someone can point my nose in the right direction... ???

Thanks for the quick response and extra tool. I love adding them to my collection. ;)  So I take it the UV Mapping in Anim8or works only in a projection mode.  I see that I can isolate a few faces and work on them individual or groups but it is harder and tedious to do it like that.  Thanks again for the tool.

You can also change the projection from planar, to cylindrical, spherical, and spherical reflection. With the UV tool on, double click on your model. Btw, the UV arc tool works the same as the Arc Rotate tool. Hope this helps you out.

The Anim8or UV tool is a quick way to control an object's UV coordinates, and as such is never going to give the same level of control as an outside unwrapper.  It is quite effective with simple geometric shapes, and the ability to control UV mapping for individual faces is handy, but for complex organic models UV unmapping is the way to go.  For example, a simple model like a plank of wood will have texture stretching on at least 2 faces, most likely the ends, by default.  The tool in Anim8or can very quickly adjust the mapping for these faces and with a bit of practice can be very effective.  It's simplicity does mean it is also simplistic, but compared to the impenetrably complicated and downright daft UV mapping controls in Carrara it's amazingly awesome!!!

(BTW, well done on completing the tutorials, if you have made it this far you have passed the most common obstacles.  If you have successfully made an object, rigged it as a figure, constructed a sequence, and tied it all together in Scene mode, you are officially no longer a 'Newbie", despite what your status says!)

Thanks guys, I was using the Lithunwrap that Pincho hooked me up with but I was wondering so do you export as 3DS or OBJ?  I notice my Blender models seem to import better from 3DS.  OBJ doesn't seem to carry the groups or the textures.

Well E5 you haven't seen nothing yet. I will get some of my elves and fairies online and really start showing off.  :D  I do a lot of fantasy artwork and since I am... between jobs at the moment, I got bored and decided to try something new.  Funding didn't go so well at college so I am stuck at the rents for most of the time.  :(   But the good news is unlimited internet access and their old cruddy PC.  Which is one BIG reason I am not using Blender right now their graphics card is so outdated.  I am lucky I found Anim8or. ;D

Export from anim8or as OBJ, load Into Lithunwrap. UV then save over the model as OBJ again. Save the UV map. Load UV map into Photoshop? Colour it. Save it again. Import OBJ into Anim8or. Get the texture panel up. Click on New. Click on Diffuse. Find your texture with the browser. Load it, select it, click OK. Click Apply. Now you can export as 3DS, or just save the Anim8or file.
