enviromen map texture problem

Hi ,well i am having a problem enviroment map textures are not working,the images are sqare,256x256,but its one image being repeated,anyway i do the usual thing and chose the images but when i apply the texture to the object it stays the usual old gray colour ,no change,normal textures work and images put on difuse work but not enviroment map,please help me

My guess is you don't have shaders turned on.  You can turn them on by going "view>preferences" and checking "use shaders".  But the environment map should show up when you render otherwise.

It sounds like your drivers don't support OpenGL or something of the sort.  You can try updating your drivers, but they may just not support it.  If so, you can view your environment maps by rendering the image.  You can do this quickly in object mode by going "Render>Render Image..."  It'll give you a quick render of the viewport without shadows or anything, so it should go quickly.

i think my drivers just are not installed properly cause it works on win98 on the same computer ,thanks though,it does render with the enviroment map
