Challenge #12:Super-Duper Simple Machine

Example of a simple machine (Lever)!

Welcome to our 12th challenge! Your goal for the next two weeks is to make a simple machine that does something monumental, innovative, out-of-the-world, or just plain crazy!

A simple machine performs one of these functions:
  • Lever
  • Wheel and axle
  • Pulley
  • Inclined plane
  • Wedge
  • Screw

You can only use one type of simple machine in this still render, and naturally it needs to be the simple machine that's doing the monumental work.

Deadline: 2 weeks (Completed)

What will be judged:
This challenge will have a public poll. Vote for the best still render.

Remember the challenge rules and post your progress, c&c, and/or final renders in this topic.

The Winner!

Tof

I will be on a holiday so I won't be able to make anything. A very shame, because it sounds like an interesting topic! I think I would make sliced bread ;)

Good luck to everyone participating!

Here is my progress for this challenge.
I try to make a Noria. modelling and UVMapping of the weehl are quite finiched (just to add a few parts and adjust them). Now modelling the base, and later, to texture it and add an environnement (add water will be difficult I think, but I'll try it!) I hope to see a lot of other projects, but with the holidays, a lot of anim8ors are busy...(for me, it is the only time where I can play with anim8or)

This is an interesting topic. I'll give this a try... after my last day of finals tom. Do we need to put up WIPs? Others seem to put it so I'm just wondering.

Please post your progress as you do it. You won't be disqualified if you just put up your final at the end, but there's less exposure and excitement for the challenge if no one shows that they're trying!

No Tof, there is nothing wrong with your machine.  There seems to be a problem with the forum.  Others have already mentioned that elsewhere.  You need to insert your image, i suppose.  All machines may not allow that, however.

I think what Indian8or means is to upload an image to an image-hosting site (such as ImageShack or PhotoBucket) and then add the image to your post using the [img] tags (you can click the "Insert Image" button above the text window when posting a message...)

I don't usually save WiP stuff so usually it's just a random render during the process. I honestly forget to save WiP because I get so engrossed in working that I forget to stop and save a quick render. lol

Here's how the setting for my entry looks so far, a kitchen(or the cupboard side):

The simplemachine planned to be used is a pulley. Working on that at the moment.

EDIT: Well here's a screen of the isolated Pulley doing the work and the character using it. The work being done is lifting the character in the attempt to reach the cookie jar on the top shelf of the kitchen.

My picture on photobucket, I hope it works, it's first time I try this...
If it works:
- modelling in anim8or
- UV mapping in Lithunwrap
- adding grass and drops with Nicke's plugin (Mesh2Mesh)
- UV map painting with Artweaver
- Ajusting the materials to fit the best with the backgroung (photo of Holidays in France, Luberon...) - Render in Anim8or (applying the advices of Kubajz to cut down the render times, it has taken only 3 hours)
- Adding blur with aniM!or and Artweaver (Depht channel - Image blending)
