Hi everyone. I've been using anim8or for awhile, but haven't used the forum until now. Just wanted to show something I'm working on. Planning on using it in a toon about a cave man.

*edit* never mind, i reloaded the page and it worked now.  it was obviously just my computer being weird.  very cool pic!  looking forward to the finished video - if you've got a youtube account (with or without other videos), could you post it on "The Great YouTube Directory Thread"?

Actually I threw that texture on at the last minute. Originally I had a grass one but it obscured the detail in the leaves. In fact I think I'm going to go with a lighter rock texture for the final film.

The ground texture is far too large...

Click the model for the ground and then press the UV button on the side of anim8or. Its either Alt or Ctrl, but hold it and drag diagionally dowards to tile the texture... you can get results like this:

lol i knew that. you should have seen that ground texture before i scaled it. just didn't scale it enough

Here I have tweaked it and added simple grass. Plus I uploaded a video to my youtube channel. It was something I made last year for a film festival.

The new ground texture is nice.  The texture on the tree is as well.  Though the grass and leaves look a bit fake.  This is because the tree's leaves object for one is a perfectly spherical object.  It could be nice to have some incongruencies in the texture/mesh as well as more planes with transmaps sticking out making things more random.  this is the same for the grass, you can have transmaps going through each other as well, then you don't get the perfectly clean lines at the bottom that makes the grass look somewhat fake.

i'd agree that the vegetation textures could, in theory, be made more realistic, but on the other hand, if you're building this as a film set, and it's all going to have to be rendered hundreds of times over for the animation, maybe you don't want to make it too complicated.  the important thing is to keep a similar level of detail and realism across all the things in the film, to give the production a consistent appearance.  for example, when they made Shrek, they had to deliberately make fiona less realistic than they were actually able to, as otherwise, she would have made everything else look awful by comparison.  if you're going for a simple, geometric production design for the whole cartoon, then the trees and grass you've got there work fine, imo

I really do like what I've been able to accomplish so far. Sadly, my computer crashed and somehow that file got corrupted because it won't open now.
So I'm going to have to start over in that area. And yeah, I was keeping the geometry simple for film purposes. But it was definitely better than anything I'd done before.

Don't worry about your comp crashing.
If there is one thing I've learned is that your models are always better the second time around.

yeah y do my models on anim8or crash, is it because of hte models

Spicy:  First, they are not talking about anim8or crashing, they're talking about his actual computer crashing.  Second, if anim8or is crashing for you, please create a help thread, then instead of just asking why it crashed, first try to find out yourself by finding patterns, such as if it happens when you switch from a window overlapping anim8or back to anim8or.  So please keep your posts relevant to the topic.  Also, when you don't understand something, please be more specific on what you understand instead of saying "I dont understand u".  As a last note, I'd appreciate it if you kept your comments productive.  If you want to commend someone's work, that's great, and go ahead and do it.  If you agree with someone's point, that's fine, but please don't post it unless you have more to add to the topic.
