v0.97d Preview
« on: January 17, 2010, 06:55:20 pm »

Ok, I just downloaded v0.97d and I can get that to run under Windows 7 either.  Are neither Windows 7 compatavble?

That's the pits.

all versions of anim8or are the same as far as os compatibility goes (someone correct me if Im wrong). but it must not be the OS' fault since plenty of windows 7 users have gotten it to run. but Im just as eager to find a solution to our problem.

Not sure if this would help at all, but if you have a slideshow background in Windows 7 (Which is the default theme in some cases) turning off has fixed compatibility issues with a couple of games. It may translate over to anim8or too.

How about telling us exactly what it's doing? Is it not opening at all or does it open and there's problems with the program?

What graphics card does your computer/laptop have?

How to find your graphics card: http://www.ehow.com/how_4916955_out-graphics-card-windows.html

The Graphic Card instructions are not accurate for Windows 7. The Page referred to does not have and advanced option.  Nothing happens, thats the problem.  I got the icon but when I click on it - nothing.

Alright, let's see if we can knock this out...

Kyle, I take it you're using a laptop right? In your error it seems to say that ig4icd32.dll is the culprit, and that is your intel graphics accelerator driver. So we should try to roll back to a vista driver like what was mentioned before.

Here's some steps I recommend you take (assuming this is 32-bit Windows 7 you're running):

  • Backup a restore point if you can
  • Download and install the intel INF update utility: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18494&ProdId=2991&lang=eng I recommend doing this every so often for any computer/laptop with an intel chipset.
  • Download the vista drivers for your intel graphics card, dated back in August: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18139&ProdId=2991&lang=eng
  • Disable automatic updates if you haven't already. Just set it to notify you of new updates so that you can select the updates you want to install. This way windows 7 won't install over your vista drivers automatically.
  • Completely uninstall your intel graphics card drivers if you can.
  • Restart your computer
  • Right-click the vista driver setup file you downloaded, go to properties, and set the compatibility to Windows Vista, and then install it.
  • Restart and try Anim8or.

If it still doesn't work, try running Anim8or under compatibility mode for windows xp (sp 3), and disable desktop composition and visual themes. Let me know how it goes.

SirBluDanes, please let us know if there was an error like what Kyle posted or something to that extent. Also make sure you extracted the zip file before you attempted to run Anim8or.

Here's a way to find your graphics card:

  • Click the start menu open
  • In the search/run field, type "devmgmt.msc" and press enter
  • In the Device Manager, expand the "Display adapters" item
  • The name of your graphics card or graphics card family should be there
  • If it only says a generic name, like "VGA Adapter" or the like, then continue on with the next steps
  • Right click that "VGA Adapter" or whatever it says, and go to properties
  • In the properties window that comes up, go to the Details tab and click on Hardware IDs in the drop down menu
  • Post what the entire first line says (circled in the attachment)

I'm on 64 bit actually, does that change anything?

and yes, Im on a lap top.

Edit: I went ahead and tried to follow the steps. the first problem I ran into was uninstalling the intel drivers. I removed the main one just fine, but there's a smaller one, just a little over an MB that doesn't want to be be removed for some reason. no errors, just no response.

The second problem was that when I tried to run the vista installer it tells me I don't meet the system requirements.

Edit: Success!!!  I found the 64 bit version I needed, and installed it over my old one, and it worked.
at first I was kinda bummed because while anim8or was indeed working, the colors were completely out wack. was about to roll it back to the newer drivers when I realised fixing it was as simple as going into the color management and fixing the gamma. for whatever reason the vista drivers turned it up all the way. time will tell how stable it is, but so far so good.

OK RAXX, Sorry, I've been away.  The Device manager says the following:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A42&SUBSYS_02AA1028&REV_07
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A42&SUBSYS_02AA1028
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A42&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A42&CC_0300
I tried to snag-it so you could see the entire picture but then I could not paste it here.  I download WinZip first and then the Animator. I unziped it and it said the extraction was successful. But when I click on the Icon - nothing happens.  No screen, No errors no nothing.  Like I never clicked on the icon. I also and using a laptop under windows 7.

Help!
