« on: April 22, 2010, 02:14:51 pm »

Hello everyone.

I have just been looking at the website and I saw updates from 2008 and the last time the software was updated was I think 2007 so what happened to the software??

does it need more developers?

any way I will tell you a bit more about me.

I am a programmer using C++ and opengl+sdl.

I have been a blender user for over 4 years and now I am programming my own game engine.

I have known anim8or as long as I have used blender and now I want to contribute to it, if possible since it is really behind compare to blender.

Anim8or isn't an open-source software. Anim8or is made by one man in his spare time. There isn't a production team or something like that, just steve...
It's his program and he works alone. More people have offered to help him, but he refuses..since it's his baby ;)

Ofcourse you can help the anim8or community!! We are always looking for people to make scripts and find solutions to problems.
So if you want to help using programming, try learning ASL (anim8or scripting language) and write some scripts, which you think are missing or usefull in anim8or.

Welcome to the forum btw ;) :D

thanks for the reply and the warm welcoming mate ;)

well if he wants to keep his 'baby' closed source then the production is going to be really slow and I would really like to be working on it to improve it but internally, stuff to do with rendering and animating etc. the reason why I think it is an extremely bad idea to keep it closed source is that the users will be missing out on the latest features that other softwares have and that isn't fair on the community.

back in 2007 I think I was looking at this site and today when I entered it, it looked more or less the same.

I really would like to know what are the aims of this software.

by the way, I am not saying i hate it because if I did I wouldn't be here talking and even if I cannot work on the programming I will still make some animation and models ;)

Anim8or is a great program because it is so well designed to be clean and simple.
Having one gentleman at the controls has kept it that way.
Now we don't want to turn Anim8or into Blender, do we?

By the way "He" is Steve Glanville, so it's probably better to refer to him by his name. After all, he deserves a great deal of Kudos and has made many people, including myself, very happy.

Welcome aboard Retro

I'm guessing that the next version of Anim8or will be the anticipated Version 1.0.  I'm also guessing that Steve has in his mind quite a long list of items that he wants included before he's willing to call it 1.0, i.e. no longer a work in progress.  So I figure it will be a while still before we see any more official updates.

Personally I can understand keeping the design and programming to himself, but it's been my experience that it's better to have someone who isn't involved in the design to do testing.  So I'm not really sure why he keeps that horrid task for himself.

@headwax I have to agree that I do prefer Anim8or's lack of clutter.  I use Blender from time to time but it feels like I'm trying to paint while keeping my palette on the canvas.

Okay then I was just suggesting that maybe I could help Steve. I really think he is a great man to have made such a software by himself and that incourages me to do well on my project too.

Thanks a lot every one here for your support and thank you Steve for this great software.

You could write some scripts for us...

That would be appreciated

Welcome, retro!  We do have people who contribute by writing scripts and plug-in material for the program. Perhaps contributing in that way would be a great benefit to the community?
