Hey everyone!
Here's a funny short animation I made about a fly that keeps bugging a guy.
youtube.com/watch?v=tRmpXMQH1no[/youtube]]http://www.

I mainly made it to experiment on animating bones in scene mode

Below are some clips from it

  • Couldn't ever use Blender or Maya. Anim8or's good.

It's qutie well done for your first. HOwever, I'd suggest working on maybe your walk cycles (a very good tutorial at http://www.idleworm.com/how/anm/02w/walk1.shtml) and your character movement. Also, during the scene with him running I noticed a little piece of the leg didn't come out with the rest. Good work so far. though.

Hmmmm... now I give Josiah a big "A Plus" grade for full use of the anim8or!

Walking sequences do take a bit of brain-power to sort out for realistic movement across a plane, but as Jos said, he was working on bone-movements, etc., and not all aspects.

Any time someone makes a full go of the program, and puts forth a complete, scripted show like this, he or she should get some sort of "Blue Ribbon," brownie-button, or something.

That video was loads of fun to watch, Jos!

It seems a relatively small percentage of Anim8or's actually animate anything (strangely), most being content with still modelling or game content production, and only a very small percentage of those people actually "complete" anything, so you can be proud of this achievement if only for this reason.  Certainly there is room for improvement with the walk cycles and the weight painting, but the models themselves are well made and the facial expression animation is truly excellent.  Most importantly in my opinion you have demonstrated a clear ability to "tell the story", with nice little touches like the bin shaking when the hero falls in.  This "directorship" is a far less common ability than you may think and I truthfully look forward to seeing more from you as your skills and understanding of character rigging improve.  Absolutely fantastic work mate, love it!

yes great work!  lovely animation and funny story. The music fits well too..

Maybe you couldve made the street a bit more 'cartoony' to fit the characters instead of a real-life texture. But just a minor note about the background doesnt influence the animation as a whole ;) Great job!

ensoniq&arik: As you know I only make still images with Anim8or, I hope you don't blame me for that, I have more fun creating a still image and try to get the best out of Anim8or that way.. different people use it for different purposes and both can be great, like Josmic8ors animations show!

No no, I certainly don't blame anybody for how they use this software or what their interests are, it's great to see that Anim8or is useful to such a wide range of fields and we can all learn from each other.  My point is that animators appear to be in a bit of a minority (no doubt due at least in part to the mind-numbingly long render times), and having a leaning towards animation myself I am particularly interested in the animated works of others.  It is particularly noteworthy when an animator actually 'finishes' something, since by far the majority of projects begun remain unfinished.  I enjoy using Anim8or for stills as well, particularly since the advent of the ART renderer, and I am regularly blown away by the quality of still renders Anim8or can produce (particularly by Anim8or's such as yourself $imon), especially considering the relative simplicity of the interface, but I do like to promote and encourage animation in particular.

True Ensoniq, maybe I'll have a look into the animation part of Anim8or soon.. Any tips Josmic8or? For example, how did you come up with a funny story like that ;)

I tried to put over some examples of animation . But was shot down  over placing them !
IE: Dassult systems Tribes because they wer`nt anim8or .... So how does one convey anything on the site If they are going to either be locked out or moaned at because they are not anim8or .... I wait to see what transpires with Benzjie`s   Kerkeythea render in the latest challenge!

Hey everyone thanks for the comments!I really have to make some anim8or tutorials soon!! :) :)

Any tips Josmic8or? For example, how did you come up with a funny story like that ;)
All I did was think of a simple, silly cartoony plot-A GUY TRYS TO ESCAPE FROM A FLY!
Also watching cartoons like Tom & Jerry,Looney Toons and Mickey Mouse  gives me great ideas!

 Haha.  ;D
Funny. Well done for your first.
Not much i can really say that hasn't already been said. The more you do, the better they'll get, (overall). Its a practice and learning thing, always.
Shoo fly is a gr8! start. Keep it up.  ;)

Edit: there is 1 thing that sticks in my mind, which i noticed while watching earlier, and decided to add some CC.
Although there are several things which you know can be improved on, i just want to mention 1 thing, which might be a little helpfull. (maybe).
When the guy throws the stone at the fly, and accidently hits that other bloke in the head, the throw is underarm. !! ;)
The easiest way to accomplish part of an animation  that you may feel unconfident in doing in scene mode, can sometimes be made a lot easier in sequence mode. There's only you, the figure, and all the time in the world. You might spend a while in sequence mode, and still not get the throw quite how you want it. But thats cool, you can leave that there in sequence mode and go to work on other things. When you get the urge, go back to the sequence and keep trying. When you're finally happy with it, you can add it to your scene. Also, you can export that sequence, and use it in the future, with other characters that use the same rig.
Sequences can be a really handy thing. ;)
(i know you probably new this already, just trying to be encouraging) ;)
