New Kid - Docs?
« on: June 22, 2010, 02:41:24 pm »

I have been using a variety of apps and have recently started with anim8or as it promises to provide simple spline modeling which improves the 'organic' look of many things.

I visited a cuppla tutes and found that they do not necessarily match the facts... at least not of the version i am using. F'r an instance, one advises "Use the View->Top command to switch to the top view so that it fills the screen".

dunt DO that. in fact, selecting the Perspective and clicking allows for '1 view' but none of the others will. Is it me or does anim8or not allow for full screen viewports except for Perspective? Are there any detailed and recent docs anywhere?

it looks a keen app. if i can get my fingers in far enough to get going.

That's very strange, they should all allow for 1 view.  If you do go "view>top" the top view should fill the whole screen.  the only 4-view setup should be if you go "view>all"

If you are in 4-view mode, clicking the numpad numbers will only change the active view of the 4 - to go to a 1-view mode,  you cna click the regular '1' on your keyboard and change the view then with the numpad..

At least that is what works for me.. If you think you have a buggy version, download the latest beta one :

ok... i figured it out. The lines that separate the various viewports and the axis lines are identical, so it LOOKS like i have four view ports when I am viewing one, except when I view perspective which does not have axes.

why does the perspective view not have axes?  who cares.

I have to start looking for spline modeling stuff here. so far, mostly i just see poly/box stuff and it is the spline/patch stuff that makes this lil app so valuable. there are lots of great box modelers around (I particularly love Wings).

thanks you all for your ready response. be assured... i will have LOTS of questions.

you can use every thing in an8 using mouse apart from input of numbers by keyboard in view all mode notice top left of each view port is named ,left click will bring up view port menu

prospective does not have axis shown for one reason it is previewer of prospective ,if you want 3d view with axis just switch to wire mode or to orth or rotate view with arch rotate tool

chart of anim8or functions
an8keychart.gif or
i think i made this chart for .91 or v .95 i forget but all work in 97b
