The West
« on: January 12, 2011, 05:41:56 pm »

To finalize my western project "A native American" (http://www.anim8or.com/smf/index.php?topic=3898.0) I had to balance it with a cowboy theme  ;D

So here's a little corner of a frontier town, enjoy

Lovely as always Lynn22!  There is nothing I can critique that you wouldn't already be aware of, such as adding a bit of dirt and weathering, reducing the pattern visible in the ground, etc.  I am particularly impressed with the fact that you appear to have modelled the porch planks rather than just using a bump map, allowing for some variation in width, height and length... little touches like this make all the difference.  I also like the composition, the silhouetted windows creating a nice frame for the image.

When in 1872 a photographer visited this newly created frontier town, above is what he saw then, below is what his photo would look like today (thanks to the magic of Photoshop)  ;D

It took only minutes to do the boardwalk with individual planks and it does indeed make the difference. Being a desert town, there isn't much "dirt" around but I have the sand dust clinging to the lower part of the facade.

Thank you for your kind comments. You are right about the patteren on the ground, this is a straight render, no post-processing, and I should have touched that up before posting.
