Wouldn't be a bad idea!! The rings are actually a 'swivel' junction between two separate sections, so they shouldn't be sliding as such, though I do see what you mean on the video. The swivel is to allow the knee joint to rotate axially, which is required due to the slightly awkward design of the hip joints. The hip joints' movement is quite limited in everything other than an axial pivot, so without these swivels it would be difficult for the robot to sit down with his feet flat on the floor as his legs would splay out (kinda like a teddy bear's legs which have a similarly limited and angled hip joint). They were a 'design modification' that didn't exist on the original pencil sketch, their requirement only became apparent on rigging the test motion. The planned video for this project doesn't actually require animation of the legs, but I figured it was worth getting it right in case I use this character again in the future for more complex actions.
