First delve into organic modelling
« on: November 26, 2011, 06:51:09 pm »

Okay, so I decided to challenge myself to something completly random... I sat down with a fresh copy of Anim8or .95b, grabbed a shpere tool, and started my first real organic model. Here it is below:

Tell me what you think, and how I could improve!

Nice work.  If you could post pics with visible wireframe that'd be more useful, from a feedback perspective, since good poly topography is critical in organic models, particularly if you plan to rig it for animation.

Just as ENSONIQ5 said - showing mesh would be helpful to catch eventual sources of problems. So far I don't like how lower lip looks, there's a crease that I'm not sure if it was intended.

From design point of view there not much to judge so far. Single thin tooth looks funny to me rather than scary. Which look are you planning to achieve? Are you working from reference?

Are the bumps on the face meant to be eyes? I am not sure if this is a good practise, but I find if you dip in a bit and then extrude outward, it can help make them look separate when subdivided. This also helps with cartoon-style solid 'hair' to make it look like it is coming from the head and help prevent materials from 'leaking' when subdivided.

Alright, I've started adding more rows of teeth (it was my original intention anyway), I detached the eye balls from the lids and folded them over the eyes to from 'real' lids, added a horn, sharpened a cheekbone where the tooth cavity depresses.
