2D ANIMATION IN ANIM8OR
« on: November 22, 2012, 07:37:31 am »

Hello all Anim8ors, I recently found an old drawing I made when I was a very young boy, so I decided to make it into a movie, a lot of people use flash and toon-boom for making traditional 2d animation but I prefer anim8or because building your 2d creations in a 3d environment has many advantages over the old fashioned vector technique. ;)

Watch the animation here-

LOL, the vector technique is now old fashioned XD

well for traditional animation I use a graphics tablet and a few free paint software.

Now the video looks nice but what you're doing here is not traditional animation, and nor is it technically 2d, you could say it is mimicking the traditional 2d ways, but I would not say it is 2d traditional.
Reasons why? Well one, it was made with three dimensions. Now that one gets tricky because a dimension can represent just about anything, but traditional animation is the process of drawing, or producing each frame by hand. Here you are giving the computer parameters through the software which interprets those into machine code blah blah, insert some stuff here about os'es and assembly code, and bam the computer returns those parameters into rendered images which puts the pieces together and forms an animation.

Sorry if that's hard to read, I'm a little sick still and tired on top of that.

Yes I agree, it mimics the traditional 2d animation look ::), and it is much easier to develop 2d in anim8or, because of the advantages of 3d environment, also you can re-use animation sequences and apply them to other characters if the skeleton system is the same. Also, you can have different coloured toon lines on the same character, this was very difficult and almost impossible to do in blender.
You also achieve squash and stretch with the morph targets.
2d is very popular on children's tv and adverts, most people use flash and toon-boom costing  Beginner Bundle: Toon Boom Studio + eLearning Kit=$429.98 USD  then there's the pro bundle $1,599.98 USD  :o

That little movie has a lot of appeal. It's like the little guy is waving "hello" to the stars and the entire universe on his planetary journey through space. The music helps greatly to make it work.
