Lonely Robot
« on: July 31, 2013, 12:08:30 am »

Here is the latest of my work. It's a WIP, I'm going to change up the scene composition a bit in the future.

It's actually a test for another project I'm working on for the farther-off future. I created a 3d panoramic image with a $0.99 app on my iPod touch sitting on a tripod with a mount; the wonder's of free and incredibly cheap stuff!
More info about my process soon. Of course this isn't perfect, there's quite a bit of work to do (re-do).
I mean, what, you actually thought the robot was THAT tall?

Thanks, guys!
@cooldude, someone in my family had actually already bought this one and it was available to nab for free for me, so no loss. Any way I could see that robot?
@Blick, Thanks! Looks much better than I had expected it to turn out.

Lawl, thanks, cooldude.
I've returned to this project after two weeks with a more critical eye, and I see my screwups... Any criticism on this one? I want it to be in the end, one of those pics that are so good that people use it to advertise Anim8or. That's how good I'm aiming for.

Have always liked that 'shiny, chromy' texturing, but cant always get it on to some objects.
Remember the 'molten shiny dude' in terminator 2. I had a go at creating a morph of a shiny dude transforming from a shiny blob. Did'nt really work out, but got some nice ripply things happening. Looking at your robot with his cool texturing cant help but remind me of the wobbly blob i made, and how a few morphs can make it appear much like 'liquid mercury'.
Just wondering how a type of 'rippling mercury' effect might look on your robot?. Maybe some sort've 'face' that ripples in and out of view from his shiny head, or something.

That "ripple" is because of the low-poly and its UV texture coordinates. By multiplying the faces your get more UV coordinates when applied which creates less of that effect.

Make some animation of him waving his hand :)
Your robot design sits well somewhere in a line of simplistic and 'cute' wave of robot designs (japanese robots, Android icon). I'm only missing eyes on this one or some kind of contrast to this overall shininess. I'd add some eye shield/glasses - something like ASIMO http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASIMO has.

Hate to bump, but... it occurred to me that I never reposted me redux version of this guy! here's the small-ish version. I haven't done a large render as of yet. It's definitely much closer to what I had in mind as far as composition and style. I have to do more stuff- lens flare and some other things.
