Having trouble lining things UP
« on: March 27, 2014, 05:23:56 pm »

Hi there,

Going through some tuts, some good stuff out there that helps a lot, even though Aim8tor is fairly easy to use as it stands.

But, im having trouble lining things up. SImple: I have a sphere, say as a body, then two much smaller spheres as eyes, that I want to place on sphere on either side where eyes would go. What am  I not doing right,,the eye spheres keep moving when I place them, and I've even tried 3+1 view, but im getting nowhere. I can do it in   another 3 modeler with no trouble, so Im clearing missing something important LOL

Thx anyone!

Ok that might help me a lot, as yes, moving everything even when all selected and they move apart, so ya that's a good one, ty ;)

But what I meant  was, Im having a hard time lining things up..Im quite new at this app, so Im prob. missing something obvious ;)

I'll keep trying, but you have an idea what I"m not doing enough of let me know, i'll check back hourly.

cheers

We (or I, specifically) need more info describing your problem. I don't know what you're doing to "place them", or in what way the spheres keep moving or if you're doing anything while the spheres are moving.

Anyway, general step-by-step of how to create multiple spheres and moving them:

Creating the spheres
  • Click the Add Sphere <S> button
  • Click and drag somewhere in the workspace to create the sphere
  • Repeat the above two steps until you have the spheres you want

Moving the spheres
  • Click the Select <a> button
  • Left-click on one of the spheres to select it
  • Click the Move <m> button
  • Click and drag in the workspace to move the sphere
  • Repeat for each sphere until they are positioned the way you want

EDIT: Okay I think I have it now ;0-0 ...I think I was just getting the views turned around a bit, working in front mode only is working out great...

TY so much for taking the time to type all that out and assist me.

Well, the creation and moving part is easy enough, but trying to get a 'eye' on one side of the head where I want it, and then the other side for the other eye, is proving tricky.

I guess im not using multiple views effectively, plus Im going to   work more in front view as video tuts seem to concentrate there.

Just wanted to update , and ty for your kind reply.

Try using the view all option to open 4 separate views as this can help view things from several different viewpoints. This helps you organize things in the work space. I've experienced the same thing at times when trying to line up multiple objects in Anim8or.

Try Mirroring the object. In the Build menu there is a Mirror Image command. If you are using a sphere for the head, place it directly in the center of one of the axis you wish to mirror it on (probably y if working in front view). To center it exact, select the head object, go to Edit->Locate->Center About Origin .

Place the first eyeball where you want it on one side of the x-axis (assuming you're in front view), then use the Build->Mirror Image command.

Note that the axis you select in the Mirror Image dialog will place the mirrored object on that axis, but on the other side of the perpendicular axis (apologies for my poor math terminology, head dropping in exhaustion). If working in front view, select X axis to place it on the other side.

Hope this helps. G'night.

I"ll also try mirroring later as time permits, but so far at least its working by just working in front view ;)
