my part-Anim8or comic strip
« on: April 02, 2008, 03:11:42 pm »

hi all
don't know why i didn't think of posting this earlier - i wrote almost 600 episodes of this comic strip a while back, and i've been posting them online at 5 or 6 a week, i'm currently just past #350.  the characters (well, most of them) are anim8or renders, but the sets (when i bother with them) are mostly drawn in in Microsoft Paint 98 (which i used to add the dialogue and master the comics as well).

i guess it's a case of "it's anim8or, jim, but not as we know it"... just thought i'd share it, as it's a slightly more unusual way to use our favourite software.

you can see it here: Cylinder and Miserable.  hope you enjoy  ;D

lol, that's...origional, a really creative use of anim8or, i was thinking of doing something a bit like that before, but like the half animated half comic cutscenes in some marvel games, but that idea failed...almost instantly, great work, loads of little episodes

Where do you get the time to do all that?

3d joe, lynn22 - thank ye, glad ye liked 'em :)

Where do you get the time to do all that?

i didn't have a proper full-time occupation for about 15 months, between finishing my a-levels and starting my current degree course.  i like to call it a 'creative gap year' ;D - besides writing this comic, i also drew a much shorter one (just 26 epsidoes) with better artwork, and i built a pretty big mosaic to cover a depressingly unartistic patch of blank wall in the art building at my sixth form college (piccies here).  also i was actually quite lazy with the drawings on most of the cylinder and miserable episodes - you don't have to look very hard to see that i reused the same bits of picture over and over in various combinations.  there are only 2 or 3 anim8or sets in the whole thing, most of the rest are either quick msPaint scribbles, or else not drawn at all... although i did put about two weeks' work (on and off) into the Fungal Temple exterior model and render for Episode 0253.

Although the modeling isn't too much, the arguments are excellent. Once you learn the details of modeling you can make an excellent movie. Perhaps, you could make a team with other modelers and join efforts.
