"Red Proxy" The FSS Proxy Model for character animation
« on: May 24, 2015, 01:37:05 am »

I find it difficult to animate something that I don't think looks cool. Soooo This is what my proxy model looks like. NOTE: footage is form Maya, but the model was made in anim8or:

Looks exquisite, though the joint areas are of most interest, especially how they will animate.

Thats 1 awesome character.
The joints look sort've 'robot-y'. (in a good way, like the bots in 'I Robot').
Would you post some pics, maybe showing hips and shoulders?

@ Captaindewi, heheh, well the placement of the joints was made to fit the skeleton I made in Maya. It's also designed to actually be mechanically functional: like if you were to, for example, make a 3D print of it, you could actually pose it as an action figure.

@ Johnar, Yea it looks like this:

Also here is an upate pic, showing an armed Red Proxy:

@Neirao, glad you like it.

@ Johnar, happy to hear that, I actually sorta want to do a series of these that come in different shapes and sizes. I'm thinking something to this effect:

Desert Proxy: Has a rather classical action male build.
Cyan Proxy: A slender build that sports back mounted wings.
Lavender Proxy: A long build that sports a single tail instead of legs, like a ghost or a mermaid.
Tangelo Proxy: Sports satyr like legs.
Pistachio Proxy: Has a "bit beastly" look to it with a pair of pointy ears and a tail.
Ebony Proxy: Quadruped designed like horse or dog.
Beige Proxy: Shaped like a velociraptor, complete with tail and big toe.

Till then though, I have been practicing making Red pose in different ways in the idea of trying to exude expression:

There's defineately expression exuding there.

Love the ideas above, and the so-far plans on extra characters.

Me thinks tis a winning formula you have here. hats off fromsoysauce

@ neirao
On the note of animation. This 70 pose test was an exercise to figure out if there were anything that slowed down the pose making process, and by proxy would have put a dent in the speed for making animations. I did mange to find 5 wrinkles in the rig, so to speak. All of which have been ironed out now.

However only 1 of them is something that can visually be apparent, the addition of giving her poseable eyes:

@johnar, heheh, well it's all just in the planning, but I most likely won't have the other proxy's rolled out until I actually have a real character who would exhibit those traits, that said I am currently working on Desert Proxy. So there's that~

I'm also hoping that the addition of turnable eyes, will help to make RP just a smidge more expressive.

oh, you bet it will!  i once heard from someone in the animation trade that half of all expression is done through the eyes... not sure how accurate the 50% figure is, but i can certainly vouch from experience that the general idea is true.  :)

Well that sounds about right to me~

Before going on to finish desert proxy, I decided to pack Red Proxy with a bunch of weapons to allow for weapon specific poses (though I didn't make such poses for example today).

These weapons will be standard for all proxies.
