Old Guy On the Forum
« on: August 23, 2016, 11:11:05 pm »

I've been on and off this forum for years. I remember the long wait to see if Anim8or was going to be brought up to 1.0.

I really love the work done in the last few years of 0.98. I have always loved this software. I had a long learning period in the early days, but with persistence I kept at it and now I have a super, great, awesome tool!

I'm a 2D animator, artist and digital musician. But now is the time to get deeper into 3D. The design time curve for building objects is so nice with the latest tools. I love layers, fast select and Alt Arc Rotate the best. I just downloaded Build 1240 and am trying to test all the new stuff.

Thanks Steve! You're the best.

Same here. I've toyed around with Anim8or for years now and follow the progress regularly. The software is one of the best overall products that I've ever used. It's fairly simple to use and has inspired many model making modeling hobbyists. Steve and the forum members continue to support Anim8or. Greetings to all btw. Leroy.

I must add anim8or is the best choice for me. I use it for personal projects, but also for my job. I've tried some 3d programs out there, but honestly, I can't deal with those. Anim8or has almost the same tools as most of 3d softwares, but a really user-friendly interface, and it's easier to work with.
I was able to make high photorealistic characters and animations with anim8or, so I consider it an advanced 3d program. So, yeah, anim8or can be used for professional work, with amazing results. And I like the way it is going.

I agree, Anim8or is an advanced 3D program.
Long ago, when I decided I wanted to learn 3D graphics, I found Anim8or version 0.7. I was excited to find a free product that had so much potential. Unfortunately I was dumbfounded because I had no basic knowledge. I struggled for weeks to understand the tool bar. I worked with the tutorials but still I was confused by which tool set to use. I was lost.

It took a lot of trying and having light bulbs flash over my head as I worked out the interface. It took me 2 years to realize how it all worked. I won the battle when I worked and played and failed over and over. Now I'm comfortable with the tools. The hardest thing to learn was moving bones and why a Sequence wasn't the same as a Scene.

I wouldn't say I'm a master user, but with all the new goodies in today's version I'm becoming a real 3D animator.

So much to learn still and what a lot of fun finding all the neat new stuff.  (I still don't get the IK tools yet.)

As amazing as it was until now, the IK tool makes Anim8or gold.
I'm very happy with the new improvements Steve is making now. I was glad when he added Normal Maps not too long ago, and there's a good chance he will add Displacement Maps too, after the IK tool is complete.
I never needed another 3d tool. And with the current development, I'll never will.
Anim8or is perfect. Perfect is enough :D

Wow. Normal Maps, Displacement Maps and IK tool. More to learn. Its lucky I'm retired and have plenty of time. I just got good at using bones, skinning and bump maps. Not to mention all the new interface goodies from Steve.

Well Wikipedia just got me started on normal maps. Now to dig deeper!

Thanks for you comments, daniel99.

I was using an old version of the software for years hoping to see some significant updates, though it seemed to be taking a while and I stepped away from the forum, but stopping by the homepage to see if any news was released about an updated version. Then I stepped into the forum a couple of weeks ago with a question and discovered there had been a ton of updates that hadn't shown up on the main page. I'm still using the old version as a main for some of my projects while I learn the functions in the newer one better and granted most are still being tested, but they address almost every issue I had with Anim8or in the past and at this rate I may have no issues in the near future at all.

Alpha2: Well, welcome back then! The amazing fact is that Steve is now investing more time in Anim8or. We have new builds/versions almost every other week. And that is really amazing, indeed!

Welcome back to the forum, Alpha2.

I had a similar experience. I used an older version forever (it seemed) and when I was trolling this site I was surprised by the new activity.

What Steve has been doing has given my 3D work a whole new life. daniel99 is right when he said, "I never needed another 3d tool."

GISNut: Yeah, I never needed another one. I had some hard times animating without IK sometimes, but that's the amazing news. Soon, Anim8or is gonna have a complete and amazing IK tool, so yeah, perfection.
As I said to Steve, anim8or has the most user-friendly interface, and now looks more professional than most 3d programs. In my opinion, any tool it's in the right place.
I really don't need other programs. And that's coming from a guy who uses Anim8or for personal and professional work. Anim8or really rocks! :D
