If you are trying to extrude multiple faces, you use the other extrude button, next to the one that you used. If you are trying to extrude just 1 face then you have made a mistake by picking all of the faces, and forgetting to click on a single face.

Sorry! I think my program makes this bug, because the 2 extrudes works the same.
I tried the other ne and it's work the same. So I think a re-install maybe help.

okay! Next problem. When I use the modifier on the plant, the "leg" moves

like this....

My guess then, would be that you're clicking and dragging from the top down, am I correct?  The start and end points do matter with the modifier.  Try creating a new modifier and start by clicking and dragging from the bottom up.  It should fix your problem.
