Oh, I see what you mean.  You need a small animation that overlays, seamlessly, a static image.  Basically you need to crop every frame in an animation the same way a single image is cropped.  Hmm.. Corel can probably do it, but of course it aint free.  I'm not sure.  I will have a sniff around and if I find anything, or think of a work-around, I will let you know.

Thecolclough - thanks for sharing the links - these will really enhance my video editing

DressedForSuccess - I use CinemaForge for converting - its free - Google it.  Converts practically any format to any other format, lightening fast, great quality.  It has an annoying habit of leaving five jpeg images on your desktop and has to be closed and opened for each session, but its worth the hassle. :)

you're welcome :)

and... i had an afterthought on the jpeg batch editing method: rather than rendering from anim8or as a .avi and then using some other tool to split it into .jpgs, it would of course make life a lot easier if you just render the movie as a series of .jpgs straight from anim8or.  i've never really gone in for rendering movies as a series of separate stills, which is probably why i didn't think of this earlier.

VirtualDub only works with .avi.  When you convert from .avi to .mpg4, .swf, etc., that is compressing - it doesn't do DivX - take a look at http://www.download.com/3002-8022_4-10377263.html?tag=pdp_prob - they have plenty of free/shareware video compression apps.
