Images vs Textures

Can someone please explain the difference in the configuration between "Images" and "Textures" directory settings?

The way i've always seen it, the textures folder is for keeping 'textures', ie: cloth, wood, metal, brick, marble, water, colors, bump maps etc.
 Images folder for 'images', ie, backgrounds, reference images, renders.
 I'm assuming you're not really finding a practical  use for the 'image' folder, which i understand. There's not a lot in my image folder either, a few background images, as i keep Ref pics and renders in the relative project file.

You can use a Reference Image to help you create a model. If you have a front, side and/or top drawing or photograph of something you want to model, add then to the Front, Left/Right, Top view in Anim8or as a guide to help you create the model.

A Texture is a image that is added to a Material which is then applied to various parts of an object to give it a more detailed color, transparency, etc. For example you can use a map of the world as a texture and apply it to a Sphere to make a model of the earth, or an texture of some bricks to the side of a building, etc.

Finally, in the Scene editor, you can use an image as the background, either as a fixed image that stays with the camera, or as a panorama that you can pan around in. See this view of how a panorama works in the manual.
