frame views in scene
« on: May 08, 2017, 09:22:15 am »

Something i've noticed for a long time now, and seems as we're nearing Version 1, where 'the more tidy and consistent the better', it might be worth a mention, because it's a 'quirk'.
When you're in scene mode with multiple views and you press 'f' for 'frame view', it frames all views 'including the camera view'.
Usually the camera view is like, the main final view, whereas the other views are often more the 'working views'.
As it is, it basically means when you 'frame view' in scene mode, the next step is regain the camera view.
Changing this would not only save time, but also help to keep things consistant, because when changing between smooth, flat and wireframe views, that only applys to the selected view.
If this is making sense, perhaps 'f' for frame view in selected window, and 'Ctrl-f'  for frame all views. (Ctrl-f seems to be available?)

Is it my system or does it oversize?  I hit 'f' and then have to zoom out a bit (working views)

Also, in scene mode the camera is included as an object.  Most of the time I don't want it included (but sometimes I do) so I have to hide the camera

@johnar - What is "regain the camera view".  I avoid doing any view manipulation in camera view because (ages ago) I did this and it changed the camera properties (e.g. fov).  I don't tend to use multiple views because my screen is too small.

Frame view works here without needing to zoom out afterwards.

That's cool tho. The camera is an object, so if you don't want it in the view, just keep hiding it, as you would any other object.

The point is that when you hit 'f' for frame view, you lose the camera view you had. So by "regain camera view" i mean get that camera view back to how it was.
Theres lots of ways to do this, like double click on the camera and press ok.

If you're only using one view, and if you're in camera view, you would probably not want to hit the 'f' button because you'll lose the real camera view and will need to 'regain' it.  ;)
