Anim8or Tutorial Book Available
« on: January 25, 2021, 10:47:42 am »

Ian Ross has just released a book on Anim8or. The book contains 295 pages; it is a super nanny guide for first timers learning 3d animation and modeling. It is a step-by-step tutor course, which teaches the up to date version of anim8or including the new sound developments.

Here's a link with more details about the book: "Anim8or Tutorial Book". You can get a copy here: buy a copy here.

I'm returning to another bout with Anim8or after a four-year break (trying to learn 2D cartooning), and decided to get this book as the best way to learn the software. So far I'd say it's a big help, well-structured and steers the novice through projects that are fun and would be impossible to accomplish without the clear step-by-step directions. A big thank you for the book, the writer put a lot of thought and care into this big project.

One thing I haven't found in the book or online tutorials is modeling houses. I'd like to make a simple representation of a downtown scene as a drawing cheat (to be used in different perspectives) for some illustrations. It might seem like too simple and boring for a tutorial, but even this primitive model was difficult to do at my level. So if there are tutorials on this that I've missed, I'd appreciate a link.

Hi Exile, thank you for the positive feed back. Also well done on the house model.
Please review page 94 there is some help on how to U.V map a basic house with photo-realistic textures. Good luck.

Ian, you are right, I missed that. Edit: I'll try to add images and hopefully videos of projects from the book as I complete them. Maybe some other readers will do the same.

One really interesting capability of the software is to emulate 2D cartoons with 3D models. I tried the instructions for the cartoon hand (originally a 3D hand like the other one in the picture). I like the way the outlines are always right at all angles. UV Mapping and textures would be inaccessible to me without the instructions in the book.

New edit: This talking head is almost entirely based on Ian's instructions in the book. I followed Johnar's eye tutorial because of the lower eyelid and the eyebrows that can be raised in the air above the head. PS. Slightly edited 2nd try of Talking Head "Peter".

I am planning on getting this book when I get paid in a few days, I just had a few questions. Where is it shipped from and what are the dimensions of the book? I always liked larger computer books so I can lay them flat on the desk as I read them and use the computer at the same time.

Thanks,
Daniel
