Add new bone "glitch" ???

is there a small glitch or trick to adding new bones in Amim8or ?

here is why I ask

I am using the newest version (1.01.403) 

sometimes even though the ADD BONES < n> tool is highlighted  ----     i cant add new bones
i have to toggle thru the other tools, then come back to ADD BONES and then it will work again

any ideas what is going on here ?

 Just to check:
 Make sure you select the bone first. <a>
 Then choose 'add bone'. <N>
