Wish I could tell you. I've been an on and off lurker for a while now, and I'm certainly not in the know about what Steve might have in mind for the future of his wonderful program. The Forum link to his name says the last time he was active was in January of this year. After Steve retired from Real Life, he dropped the 1.x version, and the Forum blew up with activity, with steady upgrades. Then... Then the OGs and Steve all seem to have left the building. I don't know where they all went. Anim8or remains the only modeling program I've tried that has made me look like anything but an ignorant fool, and I've paid some pretty high prices for one or two of them. I remain indebted to Steve for the program he made, and I hate to think this is the way it comes to an end.

What forum was it?

I was talking about this forum. Find a post by Steve, click on his name, and it gives some data about when he last visited the site. He probably has other ways of checking on "his" forum, but clicking the name is the only way I know to check.

In all reality, Anim8or was an impressive powerhouse way back in the day. It still has some cool features and methods of function that I really like, and it's really straightforward compared to a lot of other applications.
But sadly many years ago, I took things as a sign that Anim8or probably wasn't going to make it way into becoming a "real tool" - don't get me wrong, it has some good stuff, but compared to what you can do with modern programs like Blender, FreeCAD etc, the only reason I use Anim8or these days is because I can quickly mockup rough dimensions of objects without any configuration, no logging into an account, no multiple menus to wade through.

Otherwise, it's too slow and too lacking in power to really be full-on "tool" in its own rite (primarily in the rendering aspect. I think it's actually a really great modelling tool still). People have made some amazing stuff with it, though not without blood, sweat and tears - and not in a way that admittedly probably wouldn't be easier done in a newer application.

As jwaltz stated - MASSIVE respect to Steve, his career and experience, and his creation that has led myself and many of us down the path of learning new programs and making new projects. Perhaps one day Steve will open-source it - I think it would genuinely take off after that
