Well, as far as textures go, you can actually find them on Google.  Textures are used on all kinds of 3D drawing programs, in games and as web site backgrounds; so if you Google "Free textures" you'll get tons of hits.

What makes a good human skin material/texture?  I think that's all a matter of perspective.  What looks good to one may not be so good to another.  As far as I know, there is no set standard for "good" textures.

For me personally, I have found a good color (The hue is 30 and the saturation is 152, with the value depending on skin color), but it's very basic and I think a texture might be better.

Hope this helps :)

PS - I really like you idea about a web site where you can send models.  I don't know of one, but I think I might put one together... it's probably not going to be anything fancy, but maybe someone will be able to take it over in the future.

i use if i need a fast model and also upload some. the good thing about the site, if you make a really good model you can sell it, and also if you need a good model or texture you can buy it.

they use .3ds, .lwo, .obj formats, and i never had a prob importing them to Anim8or

My computer specs for Anim8or and other graphics:
1.  3.2 GHz Pent 4 HT 1 MB L2, with ATI 128 MB Vid Card
2.  3.0 GHz Pent D 4 MB L2, with ATI 512 MB Vid Card
3.  1.7 GHz Pent Celeron M, with ATI 64 MB Vid Card
