Don't worry about that, what he's saying is just a overview on what your meant to do, you don't have to follow it 100%

Ok.. so i've started a new project, i am going to model almost everything on my desk, and the desk itself..

I decided to start with my external LeCie hard drive.

Just a WIP but tell me what you think so far.

i like the USB plug(idk the real name i just think plug sounds good) you should use the antialiasing option on your renders to make them better quality. ;)

It's an european powerplug.

The models look really nice, i like the usb-cable and plugs. Only the power plug seems a bit odd, too big and i might need a bumpmap as you used on the HDD and usb-plug, with a logo or something(watts, amperes, volts).

the plug acctually is that big. And yes I am from europe. Norway to be exact.

annyway. The plug has too sharp edges. I will fix that today and add a bumpmap.. but there is no logo on it. so i will just use bump to make the texture a bit more realistic

looks excellent - my only suggestion would be to alter the material on the plug pins, to make them look a bit more metallic - i think they still look a little plasticky, but maybe that's just me ;D

Entered a wrong digit in the render size.. so it became reeeeaaaally wide screen... anyway. i cut it down to this:

it looks very good. Are the textures photos of the actual objects, or were they downloaded / made from scratch?

I'm impressed by how much detail seems to be in such simple objects: especially the USB drive.

However, the bottle of paint (?) on its side looks like the liquid is still stuck to the bottom (by that I mean the bubble is at the top, rather than on the side). Just because I want to be pedantic and find some room for improvement in every render I see ;)

Oh! you are totally right about the paint. I'll fix it right away..

it is going to be a while before i post a update because a friend of mine is going to render the scene for me in Indigo to make it look more realistic.

about the textures:

The skin-cream- and paint- label is scanned. the wood i got from http://www.cgtextures.com
The bumpmaps are made in MS paint. and the rest is in Anim8or.

Nice scene Mactetra.
The cable looks great. Did you use your method or B3dman's to model it?

B3dman's.

I already knew about this method, but when i am making a double wire I have to put the second wire on top of the first. so the wire is never twisted. something that looks a bit unnatural, so I am thinking of making a new one.

:)

WOW, I thought that was your reference image of a real bottle, then I read your message!
But, what's with the logo/watermark?
