that's really great!  there's just 2 tiny details that don't seem quite right to me: the buffer stems look too shiny, and the wheels should probably be grey rather than blue.  but otherwise that's an awesome model.  4.5 out of 5 stars.  :)

A great model but I agree with colclough about the blue wheels and the buffers should be black with a slight shine from the grease  :)

Unbelievable!  Very convincing model.  I agree with thecolclough and lynn22.  The hubs of the wheels can remain blue (excellent texture btw) but the parts that contact the rails (the rim and the outer face of the wheel flange) should be silver, even quite polished, from the constant friction.  Great work on the details, like the chain and the suspension setup.  Looks like a volume shadow error on the right but no big deal.

I am no expert on rolling stock, but shouldn't it have a coupling mechanism to allow it to attach to a locomotive?  I would guess the chain would be a part of that mechanism, as a safety backup in case of coupling failure, but the main load would be taken by a hook-like arrangement.  But like I said, I don't know much about trains and stuff.  Excellent work, it will look great in the project!

Thanks all. I'll change the outer parts of the wheels to a grey colour and try and get a shiny effect on the rims. The white looking parts on the buffers are meant to be a chrome but haven't rendered very well. I'll  smear a greasy colour down them.
Well spotted Ensoniq5 I've forgotten to add any hook-ups.

Thanks for the good advice.

I work in the scrap steel industry and encounter stuff jut like that all the time, and I have to say, that looks great.  Nice job.

Everyone's already said everything else so: the stuff on top (the coal or whatever it is) looks too smooth, randomize the point position so as to bumpy, a bumpmap can only do so much!

Wow, it looks great, although I can see what Tanzim is saying, the coal looks almost like a wavey liquid.

Very nice (love the textures) but a wheelcar that is that old ,the blue paint would have rubbed to chrome against the rails I think.  A mixture of chrome, blue, and of course grease as mentioned above.

Other than that excellent, very realistic.
