Speakers Design
davdud101:
Well, at this point I have a feeling you're talking about the dirt look? I went into GIMP and threw together a transmap. It's attached, use it if you'd like!
I actually put a strange spherical shape in there as an atempt to show someone's 'bad job' of wiping the window clean. Thanks!
Thanos:
Model, textures, AO, shadows, reflections, wow, it's filling my eyes with nice stuff.
That might sound weird but the speakers look a tad more realistic than the computer. Is it maybe because of the hard corners on the screen and the tower...?
davdud101:
YES! I struggled with some weird 'Edge Properties' adversities.... I wanted to make the front face of the monitor flat while the back 'shell' was round-ish (could have just disconnected the face -.-, and I don't even know why I left the computer so edgey), but nah, Dav gotta do it the hard way, not NOT good looking way.
Guess I should have certainly considered that deeply, because those edges are probably the one thing that REALLY hurts the realism of this render. I think I'll come back to it in a coupla days with some refining.
Thanos:
you can try doing some subdivision modeling, by leaving the model as it is, and then cut the faces very very close to the front edge of the screen.
EDIT: Uuh now that I think about it it can be a bit tougher than I thought. Good luck on that pal ::)
davdud101:
I'll admit, I always used, but alas, always hated that method, which is why I was ecstatic to find the Edge Properties and am even more ecstatic to tell the communities about the wonders it's done for me.
Also, as far as those edges, I've figured it out!! The biggest problem is that I'm trying to sharpen the edge of the whole corners (points in X,Y, AND Z) when I really should only be trying to shaerpen the FRONT FACE edges themselves. I'll have a new render up really soon. Thanks, Thanos.
[edit]
It's official- the very thing that is killing this design is KILLING ME. The EP's fail to comply in such a way that they smooth out to the level I need..... But the whole process is a lot of 'chain-of-command' style stuff when it comes to edges and edge definition. It's really tough, guys, but I'm determined to make this work and look good!
