General Anim8or Forum / Re: Future of Anim8or - Time To Move On
« on: January 30, 2011, 08:00:32 am »
I have to agree. It's been a long time since I posted anything here, but I still drop in from time to time to see how the project is going.

It's very sad that Steve has abandoned the software. I don't think he's labouring away cooking up a new version because he'd have posted something by now in the forums - especially with the number of people who write in asking what's going on.

I learned CGI modelling on Anim8or and still think it's a very useful tool. You can use it from a pen-drive, run it on the lowest-powered computers, build a great deal of stuff with it. It's so frustrating to think that such a promising piece of software was just dropped by its author.

Steve, if by any chance you read this:

Please tell us if you are still working on Anim8or.

If not, are you willing to offer the source code to any coders who could take the project on?

You still have a lot of fans out here - you made a brilliant little program. If you don't want to do anything more on it, make it open source!

I don't think he's dead. According to his profile, he checked in to read the forum earlier this month. Still, Steve, if you're there, it'd be nice to hear from you - especially if there's any news about Anim8or!

Thank you very much. This has come in handy!

Thanks, Kubajzz. I recently reinstalled Windows and didn't realise I'd got an old version of Anim8or off my DVD-ROM. Now your script works - and beautifully. Anim8ors have been waiting a long time for Booleans!

Kubajzz, thanks for the script, but I can't get it to run.

The debug output gives the message:

Compiling "F:\Anim8or\Script\version2\Boolean Intersection.a8s":
error on line 23: undefined indentifier 'attribute'
error on line 23: ';' expected
23 lines 2 errors

There's a similar message with each script. Is there something special I need to do in unzipping and installing the files, perhaps?

AFAIK this always happens when the polygon gets mapped then squeezed too much. The only workaround is to use a higher-poly mesh where the squeezing is spread over loads of polygons.

Either Steve or the Blenderheads. They've been raising hell about it on their site, too. What a loser! Hope that's the last we hear of him.

General Anim8or Forum / Re: can i create visual efects ?

It depends on the kind of effects you want! Take a look through the galleries here and see if that's the sort of thing you're looking for.

If not, http://www.debugmode.com/wax/ or http://www.theprodukkt.com/werkkzeug1 can do video effects which Anim8or can't yet.

That's awesome! Did you use any other software, or just Anim8or? Methinks you ought to be writing tutorials if you're this good!

General Anim8or Forum / Re: how to tile textures around a cylinder?
« on: April 25, 2009, 09:35:22 am »
I don't think it's possible inside Anim8or. If you're familiar with the UVMapper program, load an .obj version of your model, apply a cylindrical map, then press the * and home keys to tile the map as many times as you need.

Quackar, you shouldn't need to install it - unless you were joking there.

Just download the Anim8or.exe file and double-click it.

General Anim8or Forum / Re: Gelato and Anim8or Plugin
« on: April 05, 2009, 07:54:40 pm »
I wouldn't hold your breath. AFAIK, NVidia have discontinued Gelato. Since Steve works for NVidia, it's surprising he didn't make a plugin, but perhaps there were copyright issues - or it would have needed too much coding. He's got a day job, and cats to feed, y'know!  ;-)

I believe that Terranim8or is able to do this. You set your scene up, save it, then open it in Terranim8or, where you can apply the animated texture. Save it, then open it up again in Anim8or.

Rigging means building a skeleton for your character and assigning a bone to each body part.

http://www.anim8or.com/tutorials/simplewalk/index.html

will get you started,

http://www.anim8or.com/movies/movies1/easy_eyes.zip

shows you how to rig eyeballs, and

http://www.anim8or.com/movies/movies1/crazy_trousers.zip

gives you an idea of dancing in Anim8or.

Good luck!
