You can texture individual faces by going to point edit mode.
Go to the side you want, select the face you want to texture
and pressing the UV tool.

Hope this is what you were looking for. :)

It says it's a PNG image, and last time I checked anim8or couldn't use .png's.
Though I'm not sure about any of the preview anim8ors such as .97

You have to use the graph editor.
Though because I haven't played with animation in a while I can't help you from there.
Hopefully this will point you in the right direction, and maybe someone else will feel free
to help. *hint hint*

You have to make a transparency map for it.
If I remember them correctly, any part you want to see must be white, and any part you want invisible must be black.

So take your texture, and place it into your favorite photo editing program, and make the grate white, and the holes black.

keep your image program open, so if I told you wrong colors you can easily fix it.

General Anim8or Forum / Re: .3ds export problems

I have a theory that it just won't automatically add the textures, like say a HTML web page would by typing <img src="myimage.jpg">. *hopes you understand reference*

From my experience when you export and import models textures usually don't show, but their settings are generally still there, so you may just have to go to the materials section in whatever 3D program you're trying to export to and just re-link the images. The reason colors stay is because colors are simple, and aren't made using a link to a image.

Though I think it would help to tell us what program you were trying to get the 3DS format into.

Don't worry about your comp crashing.
If there is one thing I've learned is that your models are always better the second time around.

Blender is the only program I know of that is free and can do physics.

Something I wish anim8or had was mirroring bones.
I believe blender has something like that, though I haven't ventured into armatures in blender yet.

I've been working on college stuff for the past few days and I haven't had much time to model.
Today I finally had some free time and had an idea.
Line Rider 3D

Here is a wire of work so far.

I'm working on the arms and legs now.

Lol very funny
How did you do the rope bending on the sled.

I made a figure from the sled and added several bones to the rope; then animated it normaly as you do with any figure... Many people forget that Figure Editor doesn't have to be used only for chraracters :)
I used it one time to make a book flip through pages.
And before I knew how to make fire I used it on a cone like objects for a candle frame.

I prefer to use that instead of morphs.

Oh right the animation.
I like it like everyone else does. Funny it is.

The stockings are the only thing that let it down.

They kind of look like they're floating.  :)

At the time I was making those I was getting sick of staring at this.
So I made them very simplistic. But if you see the top view they are touching.

Whats that thing under the tree?

Otherwise, really nice!!!
It's a satin cloth cover.
I put it there because I didn't like the bottom portion of the tree.

Oh.Not your computer's problem. It wouldn't render? For a computer with such speed you probably could do anything!I use blender and the ray-tracer is awesome!anim8or needs Mac and Mac needs anim8or and then!
I have blender on my mac, I just already knew how to use anim8or so this was quicker to make in anim8or than blender.

General Anim8or Forum / Re: How bout' an anim8or book?

Really the whole point of anim8or is that it's a free program with a good online community so if you were to make a book costing money than it would be more  a commercial-free program like blender.
It's free but the manual costs money.
Yeah, you could try learning it without a manual by using the
blender wiki page. But I always find the books like that better.

Really cool on shadows and all!
What's your computer's speed?Maybe your computer would be able to add shadows to tree.001 if your computer's speed is at least umm..1.4 Ghz?(if under that ......)But the whole scene is awesome!
Actually in all honesty it wasn't I was afraid to add shadows.
It was because of the amount of polys I was running into.
I actually had to cut back on the lights and ornaments
because it wouldn't render, even with no shadows.
