Smith & Wesson is the largest handgun producer in the US, and they supply sidearms to law enforcement worldwide, as well as being very successful in the public sector. Oddly enough, they even produce cologne, wood pellet grills, stealth bikes, and handbags, although the majority is tools and other stuff for law enforcement.

Don't worry though, the only reason I know this is from loking at wikipedia.  ;D

Great model, I fully support your choice of subject, as I'm a bit of a gun nut, and I'd recommend the Luger, for more originality. The thompson is overdone in my opinion, and the Luger is a bit more of a challenge, which I think you're up to.

Yeah, I just finished the actual modeling, and needed to post it asap. I'll soon be completing the fine details. You're right, the grip needs grooves, and the slide nedds markings, both of which will be a quick fix. Thanks for all the positive feedback, I've been using anim8or for a while, but have been working mainly on improving before I returned to the forums. I should have it completed in a few days, when I have some time off.

I think the problem is that you're only attribute is reflection. Another attribute, Ks provides the data on how reflective it is. 0 is no reflectivity, just the base properties, and 1 is a perfect mirror. You probably don't even need the outer layer, just the basket ball, and a Ks of .05 or something small for only a slight reflection.

It looks great, much better than the stuff I was first producing. Cars still give me trouble (don't even mention organics). I would recommend something that everybody gets on their first post. When you render an image, check the anti-aliasing tool. It gets rid of those jagged lines, and drasticly improves the quality of the image, and is almost always worth the extra time rendering.

It has been meticulously modeled after the real deal, and I believe it to be a crowd pelaser. Measuring in at 16,605 vertices, and 16,155 faces, I present you, my master piece, the Smith and Wesson Colt 1911.

Here are two things that I did because I had some time to kill.

Wow, that was pretty cool! That's amazing for four days! Now I really want to see something that you takes you longer; that would probably be mind-blowing!

Looking great! Like the others have said, the roof is a bit low, you want to have at least a foot between the frame and the roof. The same also goes for the windows; they look great, but need to be seperated from the roof. A frame around them would be helpful. I have to agree with thecolclough, a transparancy map would give them transparancy, while leaving the framing around the glass opaque. I love your work so far, and hope that my suggestions help.

P.S. Does the quota (15 MB) at that CG Textures site reset every day?

Wow, it looks great, although I can see what Tanzim is saying, the coal looks almost like a wavey liquid.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with Tanzim, and by the way, this belongs in the General Forum.

Thanks, I used the latest picture I had (after the power faliure). The texture map for the ground is oddly distorted; I love the way it looks, but it was ment to look like paver bricks. It look nice, but changed when rendered.

A year, but something like 8 months of that was spent without a computer, so I was getting rusty.

Wow, that's definately the most amazing thing that I have ever seen modeled. Listining to you critique him makes me feel overwhelmed; I just posted my first attempt at "making" something. The little things that I don't even see make me wonder if I should have waited. Anyways, you have done an amazing job!
