Finished Works and Works in Progress / Glass
« on: May 04, 2020, 12:02:55 pm »
Hello everyone,
Today I wanted to challenge the transparent class material.
So I modeled a wine glass that will be used for my experiments. My model is rather simple and has few faces but has been converted to a subdivision. I then rendered with the ART Ray Tracer (scene mode, standard lighting, AA = 100, no shadows yet).
Unfortunately the glass is still empty, but I rather see it as an opportunity to test a dielectric class material  ;).
The cracked effect in the area surrounded in yellow leaves me a little perplexed ... Is it due to too low AA, the environment, the use of a subdivision or something else?

General Anim8or Forum / How long will take my render??
« on: September 11, 2010, 11:51:26 am »
I usually make a low quality test render (AA off) of my scenes to control if everything seems OK.
I had the idea today to evaluate the render time with the time taken by this test render. I tryed it with a small scene and come to this result:
render time for the quality render
if AA=4 : 4 x render time with AA off
if AA=9 : 9 x render time with AA off
etc...(I tried 16 and 25 too, I presume it is the same for all value, and that some of you don't need a test to know that!)
Simple and I think helpfull to limit the AA to get a correct render time (I actually have a render in the oven with AA set at 49 that will certainly take +/- 70 hours on my poor old computer...Boring.
It can work too with the image size (a 800x600 render will probably take 4x the time of a 400x300 render)

Hello,
I'd like to try to add DOF to some of my projects (using depht channel).
Is there a free software to do this? (I actually use Artweaver 1.0 for UV MAps and after effects but I think it cannot do that :'().

General Anim8or Forum / Reference image in sequence or scene mode
« on: August 24, 2009, 03:40:22 pm »
Perhaps a crazy question! ;D Knows anybody if there is a way to add a reference image in sequence or scene mode? I think this can help me to add good keys.
(Yes, I'm now playing with animating ;))

General Anim8or Forum / Two Sided material
« on: August 24, 2009, 03:30:16 pm »
Just a small question about two sided materials...
I try to make a two sided material with a texture (diffuse) on each face, on the workview I get the expected effect but in the render, the texture of the front side comes on the two sides...
I find no answer in the manual. Has somebody already tried to make this? Did you get the same result?
