General Anim8or Forum / Interesting Video
« on: May 05, 2011, 08:57:44 am »
Well Hello everyone, just finishing up at college and I guess I will be staying in the parents basement again this summer. Ah, summer in the dungeon!  :P

I came across this neat video on youtube, it is not Anim8or but the topic and how it was filmed is very interesting.

Maybe I will be around here this summer showing off my own work.

ASL Scripts / Import Bones or Armature?
« on: May 12, 2010, 02:39:49 pm »
Is there a script that will import the bones or armature in from other formats?

I am bugging the hell out of my Blender contacts about this same thing.  I want to be able and should be able to go straight from Blender --> Anim8or or the reverse.  Both programs are now use a scripting language to do advanced import and export.  Some one informed me that Blender exports the bones in collada but to my knowledge there is no import script for collada?

Even so that feels just like having to jump through Anim8or --> 3DS -->Blender.  Blender uses a Python script which being no programmer myself don't know the difference between the two codes.

If someone wanted to be the big man on campus all they have to do is cook up this script and they would be #1 in my book.

Ok this first pic is one I made in Blender over a year ago and imported it to Anim8or.  This is the leading lady Farah from Prince of Persia Sands of Time.  I like strong female characters in video games.  After I imported my model I set up 3 lamps 2 area and one spot.  The shadow is a raycast and that causes the render time to creep.

This next render took less time. Mainly because the shadow is a fake. I placed my dark fairy on her shoulder to illustrate that the shadow is artificial.  I duplicated her mesh and using the scale I flattened her out.  I used the warp tool (which is kind of like using lattice in Blender) to skew her.  Gave her a dark gray texture and instant shadow.

This is more importing from my Blender models.  This male head only lacks hair, if this was the Blender it has a particle feature just for that.  So I am probably going to work with banana peels and alpha hair in the Anim8or.  :D

Now to my first WIP which I will keep you up to date on in this thread.  I want to create this from scratch in the Anim8or.

Some of you might recognize her as "Kerrigan" from Star Craft.  Overall I am really into fairies, angels, and demons.  She kind of looks along the lines of all three.  So now you know where I have been and where I am going.

General Anim8or Forum / Some minor questions
« on: September 16, 2009, 06:06:38 pm »
So far I did some tutorials successfully,Egg plant was a piece of cake. I made the bird walk. But I exported one of my old models from Blender to obj and imported to Anim8or and the textures didn't go. So now I am up to UV editing and the way you do this confuses me.

I am used to working on a UV map and Steve has some kind of a UV ring????  To be honest I never saw this method. My textures seem to be projected on to the model and not UV Mapped.  If someone can point my nose in the right direction... ???

General Anim8or Forum / Custom GUI - limited
« on: September 15, 2009, 02:52:47 am »
I know this is probably a "girl thing" but I would like to be able to set custom colors in the GUI.  The GUI is functional but seriously limited on style. I would like to see a bit more color. White edges and white verticies is like too much white and black.  The background is a neutral blue but I like working on neutral gray.

I am having no problem grasping the hotkeys or menu buttons but isn't there a way to make your own custom hotkeys or way the mouse interacts to the GUI? If not in this one maybe the next release?

General Anim8or Forum / Most Impressive
« on: September 14, 2009, 08:22:56 pm »
Hello,

My first time here and I have been using Blender since...uh, a long time now.  So it is difficult adjusting to the different GUI.  I haven't had time to look over ALL the stuff yet but I found you from a youtuber by the handle kingbraceblane.  Many blenderheads (like myself) are pretty much a one horse kind of person.  But I like to expand my tools where and when I can.

What I find impressive about the Anim8or vs the Blender so far is:
  • Just the one man programming it. Quite a good deal of work for a solo act. So take a bow.
  • Compact size of the download.  I realize that the Blender is a lot more, but I am just comparing the rendering aspects.
  • Render quality vs time is pretty damn fast.
  • No special needs -- high end video cards or memory issues.
  • Simple GUI makes easy to learn but I still like Blender's GUI better.
  • Both are free, but something tells me once you get this up to version 1 or 2...  ;)
  • Imports 3DS and other popular meshes.

I want to get to learning so I better stop typing but first I will see if I can help anyone out here in the forum.
