Hi Kubajzz - nope, no bones, just a simple disc object, nothing else in the file.  Tried it again this morning, still getting Parse error in third line. ???

EDIT:  Problem solved - I was editing the position instead of the orientation - works just fine, thanks for the interest - and the hint :)

Hi all - I'm trying to get some understanding of controller scripts - especially spin.  The script I've been trying to use is from Beiderman's site, as well as assistance from Kreator, to spin in the Z axis

float $speed;
$speed = 5; /* Replace 5 by your value for speed */
$orientation = (0, 0, sin($speed*time), cos($speed*time));

I always get a Parse error in the last line and nothing happens.  Even tried leaving in the first default line, but no luck.  The one time when it did work, by some unknown luck, the object spun, but always at 1.5 rotations per second, anti-clockwise, regardless of me changing values, even inputting negative values.  Have tried in V.95 and .96a; same result.

Would very much appreciate some assistance here

I have always understood it to mean, in Anim8or terms "merge points"

Try using "Makehuman" - its free and easy to use - you'll have to rig it with bones, though

Thanks guys - this is good to know because we a plagued by power outages - called "load shedding" - a government euphemism for "we spent the money on fancy cars and now can't build enough power grid capacity" :)

Thanks guys - I'll try all of these suggestions - the challenge is to get a decent resolution pic of big sails - they all seem to be taken at an angle with bad lighting and we don't get a lot of close-up views of schooners around here for me to take my own  ;D

Hi all - anyone give me some guidance on making decent cloth folds - I'm particularly trying to make sails like in the photo - especially the tension creases in the corners - whatever I do ends up either lumpy or with sharp creases -

VirtualDub only works with .avi.  When you convert from .avi to .mpg4, .swf, etc., that is compressing - it doesn't do DivX - take a look at http://www.download.com/3002-8022_4-10377263.html?tag=pdp_prob - they have plenty of free/shareware video compression apps.

Hi RudySchneider - interesting... you surely don't sit at your computer and render each image?  Is there a way to render a sequence of images automatically?  Secondly, I've been searching for a way to get VirtualDub to composite .jpg sequences into an .avi - please share

Thecolclough - thanks for sharing the links - these will really enhance my video editing

DressedForSuccess - I use CinemaForge for converting - its free - Google it.  Converts practically any format to any other format, lightening fast, great quality.  It has an annoying habit of leaving five jpeg images on your desktop and has to be closed and opened for each session, but its worth the hassle. :)

From what I understand of this thread, DressedForSuccess wants to crop scenes in a video file, not trim it?  This can be done in Pinnacle Studio, but I don't know of any free software that has the capability.  If you really want to do this and don't mind a lot of very repetitive work, you can convert the video file to individual frames with VirtualDub - open video file>export image sequence.  You can them crop each frame in any editing app, save each frame under a new name.  It seems that VirtualDub can reassemble the video, but I haven't gone into that (life is too short).
 If not, you can load the images into Terranim8or as animated material, open in Anim8or and render as .avi.  You would have to be really desperate to do it this way ;)

You can "join solids" without the separate meshes actually touching - then mirror - then in face select mode you select the faces of each mesh, go edit>detach faces and the mesh is then becomes a separate mesh.

I agree with everything - except the remark that Paint.NET is not good for making textures - there are stacks of plugins especially for that, and a lot of tuts on how to do various textures - try it, you'll be amazed
