how can it be a house for your mascot and be abandoned at the same time?
or will it just look abandoned?

octoped, octo-sapien, hominus-octopedius. those are the best i can think of now, and yeah i always use reference images when i box model.
ps. i kinda like octo-sapien myself

a good way to make individual chain links is to use the torus script and the non-uniform scale tool to make kind of a hollow elipse then use hihosilvers method.
if you don't have the torus script then click Build>primitives>N-gon enter a value of 30-60 then draw out the circle of how large you want the diameter of the chain link to be. now draw another N-gon using the same method make this one as large as you want the chain link to be click Build>extrude then select path in the "axis" box then click ok and click the larger circle. your chain like should appear if you cant figure out how to do this i can make and post a small chain.

i once used photoshop to make a realy cool scale texture i could post it if you want i will edit it a bit to make it more "lizardy".
also i am having trouble with bump and trans maps when i go to the special texture thing inside the material editor and select the file for in the bumpmap/transmap sections after i apply the material it does nothing. i have tried the UV tool, different trans and bump maps, different models but i cant figure out what is wrong. please help me.

after reading my first programing book i was looking for 3d models online and i saw a link to this website it looked interesting so i started exploring the site and looked at some of the tutorials. i have had a little experience with 3ds max(30 day trial version) and this looked way way way easier so i downloaded it, did the chicken walk tutorial, and 1.75 years later im doing a modeling project to help other noobs (check out the "noobs come" article)
