General Anim8or Forum / How do you make an object glow
« on: September 02, 2008, 08:56:27 pm »
I'm trying to model the sun in anim8or but I have no idea how to make it glow realistically. I've tried placing a light in front of it to simulate the glow effect but it just doesn't look right....any ideas??

I also have a second question to ask.  :)

Im trying to animate a character picking up a ball. However, I have to animate the ball with every keyframe of the hand movement and it makes it look like the ball isn't staying properly in his hand. Is there anyway I can cause the ball to move relative to the hand so it seems like its staying firmly in his grasp or do I have to do this keyframe by keyframe?

General Anim8or Forum / How can sharp edges be rounded off
« on: August 07, 2008, 12:57:45 pm »
Hi.  Im working on modeling something thats made out of metal but I dont know how to round out the edges (they're too sharp). I dont want the edges to be too rounded because it will take away the illusion that the object is made of metal. I know 3ds Max has a chamfer tool to round out sharp edges- Does anyone know any way to do this in anim8or.  ???

I've come across a few problems in my modeling with anim8or. In some objects that I have made, when I use convert to subdivided on the object, a hole appears in the mesh that I can't get rid off.  :( Any help would great appreciated. :)

Thats how anim8or works. You can't rotate bones in certain axis when your in a particular view. Simply change your view and try rotating the bone. Its also important to note that the each mouse button rotates the bone in different axis: left click rotates x-axis, right click rotates y-axis, and middle click (if your mouse doesn't have a middle button, Alt+Right button does the same thing) rotates the z-axis.

Yes you can voice over your animations but you'll need a program to do it. I would recommend using Windows Movie Maker (or whatever movie program your computer came with).

Could you post a picture of how the texture looked when mapped?

You might need to UV map the texture onto Master Chief. In order to do that you'll need a UV mapping program (such as UV Mapper Classic) to unwrap the model.

If you find that the body parts are too big when you import them, you can scale them (shrink or enlarge) so they are the right sizes. Once the body parts are in the right proportions you can rotate and scale the bones in the figure editor to rig the body.

They all look just about the same to me although 1 and 2 seem a little warped.

Im trying to model a human character and I need to now how to UV map it correctly (I use UV mapper classic). 1) How do you know what type of UV map (box, planar, spherical, cylindrical, cylindrical cap) you should use for each body part? 2) After you unwrap the the body parts, is their any other manipulation you need to do to make the map perfect? 3) And if your model has alot of parts how do you separate them all?  :o

Thanks for any tips/tutorials.

I'm fairly new at learning anim8or and at the moment I'm trying to learn how to model a human head... so far its not going well  ???. Can anybody give me some tips or a tutorial on how to model a head (through box-modeling or any other methods).

The help will be greatly appreciated.  :)
