General Anim8or Forum / Re: Morph targets
« on: December 30, 2008, 03:38:39 pm »
Yes morphing does work with face editting. Although it can get a little tedious you can use it to make your character look like its talking.

You create morph targets in the object editor mode by going to Build > Morph Targets > New...
After that you move the verts of your model to form the morph you want. Go back to "Morph Targets" and click "--None--". This saves your morph and reverts your model back to its original form. You can repeat this to create multiple morphs for one model.

To use your morphs in a scene, simply put your model in the scene and select your morph in the time track (if you don't see your morph just go to object mode and back to scene mode; it should appear under your model's name in the time track.)

I hope this helped. Have fun!  ;)

Ok good I was worried they decided to cancel it. I did find the website and I have to say there is some impressive work going on there.

Its a really good character but I was wondering, since you went through the trouble of unwrapping it with UV mapper, wouldn't you want to put some fancier textures on her?

I was wondering...
Does anyone know if the Anim8or movie project is alive and kicking or has it died off. ???

I hope thats not the case because I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

What exactly do you mean by "8-bit versus 24-bit color problem"?

Ok, I'll try to explain what Rudy and Lynn said...

The image you have exported from UV mapper may have been saved as a 8-bit image. Images like this have smaller file size, but contain only 256 colors and therefore you cannot use all the colors when editing the image. You must first convert your image to RGB colors (24-bit) - I don't know how to do that in Gimp or MS Paint, but I'm sure it's possible...

Hey I gave what you said a try and it worked like a charm! I turns out the texture map was saved as an 8-bit picture and converting it to RBG fixed all the colors. Thanks for everyone who posted. Now I can get back to texturing! :)

Nice job. Do you plan to animate it?

Thats some impressive texture work. You should really make a tutorial on your methods.

It sorta has a cartoonish feel to it that i like. Did you use any reference images or did you just design the model yourself?

« on: December 23, 2008, 01:35:06 pm »
After modeling I usually import my models as an obj. file into UV mapper. When I save the unwrapped mesh as a bitmap so I can texture it, the paint program only lets me use several colors  ??? However, when I work in my paint program (I use gimp and MS paint) without a UV map, everything works normally.

(example of problem: all shades of yellow and green become a dull yellow and all reds become a purple color and all shades of blue become a light blue color, etc.)

Did I loose color information when I saved the bitmap of my model from UV mapper or is something with the paint program?

P.S. It would be great help if someone could also tell me what UV mapping tool they use and how they dealt with the same problem.

It looks really good kinda like something out of Pixar's Robots.

I was wondering though, how did you get the gray texture to come out like that when you where rendering, it dosen't look flat. Was that a texture you made or one made in anim8or texture tool?

General Anim8or Forum / Re: How Do I Create A 3d enviornment
« on: November 08, 2008, 05:11:40 pm »
The panorama idea isn't bad but I have some shots that reveal the background color past the panorama (plus I want to learn more about sphere enviornment maps).
I want to learn how to use a sphere to properly create an enviornment map. When I tried and did test renders, the sky texture was horibbly stretched and it was obvious that my city was in a giant sphere. I want to know how to get rid of this problem and give the illusion that the city is in a large open space with an atmosphere. Is there any specific tutorials or tips on this?

Hey I'm trying to model a city for a project I'm working on but I don't know how create a proper 3d enviornment. I tried creating a large sphere and putting a sky texture on it but it came out badly. How would you simulate a large, open atmosphere for a city?? ???
