General Anim8or Forum / Spherical Projection Questions…
« on: August 09, 2011, 05:51:13 pm »
Hey, all. I've been trying to put a texture on a (somewhat deformed) sphere and as it always does, it has a line running through the middle of the texture. So when I select the object, say Settings > Component > Texture UV and select Spherical Projection, it looks just like I want it to! Even if I properly make a spherical map, there are still some noticeable flaws that the Spherical Projection option in Anim8or fixes.

Now, I want to know if there is a way to produce the same effect using some other program? Say, Unity 3D for example. Or Blender, or LithUnwrap, UVMapper Classic, anything…?

I've never seen a way to make a texture work like Anim8or's Texture UV setting does. It does something to the model/texture, and I don't know what.
Can anyone shed a little light on this?

Basically, I just want to know if there's a way to duplicate whatever it is the Spherical Projection option in Anim8or does, in some other program, using some other method, so it will work universally in all programs, and not just in Anim8or.

General Anim8or Forum / Shell tool won't work?
« on: May 29, 2011, 11:26:21 pm »
Hey, all. I'm kind of getting back into Anim8or and lately I've been doing some things and I have run into a problem.

When I create a simple cube, then convert it to mesh, and try to use the Shell tool on it…it doesn't do anything. I know sometimes the Shell tool doesn't always work, but I've forgotten why…
Any ideas?

Anim8or v0.98 Discussion Forum / 1 Feature request
« on: May 20, 2010, 04:13:44 pm »
You know me, I don't go around asking for things in Anim8or all the time, but this, I think would help us Anim8ors a lot.

It would be nice, if when the autosave is on, instead of creating a backup an8 file, it would put the an8 file into a zip file. That way, the backup couldn't very well get corrupted, could it? I've heard a lot of people have had problems where the backup file is corrupted, and the original file is lost, or something went wrong with it, etc. So if the backup was immediately put into a zip file, it couldn't get corrupted, could it? I don't think it would be that hard to implement this feature into Anim8or. Would it?

Just a little suggestion I thought I'd throw out, that I think would help us a lot.
Cheers, Steve! :D

General Anim8or Forum / 3D Program I used to have.
« on: May 20, 2010, 01:55:43 pm »
I used to have this 3D modeling program, but it would never run on my computer for some reason, so I deleted it, and THOUGHT I had left it on a CD or something, but apparently not..  :(

So now I have a NEW computer! :D (Happened 3 days ago) and I can't seem to remember the name of the program or find it hidden away somewhere, hehe...

So I wanted to ask you 3Ders here if you could possibly tell me the name of it with the help of some details I'll give about it below. Thanks in advance. :)

Let's see.. It was called "3D xxxxxxxxxxxxx Lite". It had a pro and lite version, I think. I got the Lite, though, and it wouldn't run.
The site was beige (back in June/July 2009) and the forums were that color as well. It was kind of mostly for architectish models, but made other things as well. It had a large gallery of user showoffs (:P ) and I always loved to look at them. I wanted to make some stuff like that, too. But it wasn't the models and galleries that made me want the program, it was just the overall design of it, and the tools, and such. I can't remember any of the tools or anything because they were just mentioned briefly on the site and the program never would run..

So, there's some details about it, I sure hope someone knows of this program and can point me towards it,
Thanks again!

P.S. The new computer is awesome! It has 2.4Ghz, 2GBs of RAM, a 512MB ATI Radeon video card, and a nice and big hard drive. All the tools I need to anim8! :P Loving it, btw. Got it (with 2 LCD monitors, they're also awesome) for ~$100 dollars. Nice guy who sold it. Now I can run Cre8or, also! :D

Anyways, see ya!

General Anim8or Forum / Animation...
« on: April 29, 2010, 04:53:02 am »
I'm sure this has been asked dozens of times but I'm [just now] starting to learn animating things in Anim8or. (Anim8 and animating? lol) I never really was interested, but now I am.

Basically, I want to be able to animate my people and make them walk, talk, and move around, and at least make it believable. I know it's not instant or anything, so I'll be willing to take a while to learn it all.

But what I'd like is some tutorials for animating in 3D. Key frames (I have no idea, really) morph targets, (pretty good at them) and walk cycles. It'd also be nice if they were specifically made for Anim8or, but it doesn't really matter, I guess.  :)
Anything anyone shows me will be appreciated! Thanks! And forgive me if I have no idea what I'm saying above, because I've never really gotten into animation as I said. ;)
3DGeek

EDIT: I'd REALLY like to know about morph targets.. I just tried to animate a mouth and really can't figure it out anymore... I could only animate things like flags and stuff. :P Any good morph-target-talking-? tutorials?
Thanks. =]

Finished Works and Works in Progress / My Random Stuff
« on: April 28, 2010, 04:55:32 pm »
Hmm, I started a topic for my Star Fox fan game a while back, it died, obviously.  ::) And I just realized I've never really shown any of my best work here, so now I'll start a topic for the characters/humanoidish people I model. :)

The last one's face needs a bit of work, though.
Tell me what you think! :D

P.S. Actually, I think I'll change it just to my random models. ;)

P.P.S. All models and textures are made by me, btw.

General Anim8or Forum / The Best of Anim8or
« on: April 25, 2010, 01:20:30 am »
Hey, again! I thought it'd be a good idea to start a thread where you can post things you find on youtube, or general sites that you come across. With models/animations done in Anim8or.

Someone can maintain the list (which will be either this post, or the second post or something) each time someone posts something.
For now, I will maintain it, but if I don't update it for some reason, then a moderator may if he wants. ;) But I will do my best to update it every time someone posts something.

This is NOT a place to post your own works!
You should post things you think are worthy of being in here, not someone's random first model done from a tutorial or something. ;)

Also: It doesn't have to be an animation. It can be anything! As long as it was done in Anim8or.

I'll start: Anyone ever seen someone solve a Rubik's Cube in Anim8or? :P

General Anim8or Forum / Your Challenges folder?
« on: April 02, 2010, 09:08:05 pm »
Hey, this probably shouldn't go here, but there's no other place. (We need an off-topic board, or a board about the FORUM)

Anyway, I was just sorting out my Anim8or Challenges folder, and wondered what everyone else's looked like. So I started this topic.
Basically, you know the board "Anim8or Challenges"? If you have a folder on your computer devoted to them or something, then post a screenshot here!

I'll go first.

Nice and organized. :D

General Anim8or Forum / Another question =P
« on: March 14, 2010, 11:12:47 pm »
I know this question's been asked a million times already, but I really need some help.

What I'm wondering is, what programs would be ideal to make games with Anim8or models? I know Cre8or, and others, but most of them won't suit my purpose, or won't work on my computer. But suggest anything, no matter what the requirements, or size.  ;) It doesn't have to be Anim8or compatible.

So, anyway, I really want to make games, it'd be very fun for me. I'm looking for some programs that require none to mediocre programming experience.  I know there are some out there. The type of game I'm wanting to make is a space game/shooter. Like the series Star Fox. Also, I may want to make a FPS/First Person Adventure game like the series Metroid Prime.

I realize I may need to grow up and learn to program to get the desired results, but I don't care how stupid or amateur the program may be, I just want to do it without having to learn C/C++ or something.  I've exhausted google IMO, and still haven't found anything useful. But feel free to suggest anything!
Any questions, just ask. =]
Thanks in advance!

General Anim8or Forum / Exporting an animated sequence, figure to 3ds?
« on: February 21, 2010, 10:34:38 pm »
Hello again, sorry for the long absence. Didn't have internet, but now I'm back, and with high-speed internet this time! =]

Okay, I was wondering if it's possible to make a model, >rig it, >animate it in sequence editor, and export it to the .3ds format, while retaining the bones and animations?

I would check this out on my own, but I don't really have any other programs to test it in, so I wanted to ask you experts here. =P

Also, I'm thinking that it is possible, because anytime I export a figure or sequence, it lets me export it to 3ds or an8. So I'm basically wanting to know so I can use an animated anim8or model in an FPS game maker.

Thanks!

General Anim8or Forum / "Connecting" meshes to other meshes
« on: October 06, 2009, 06:05:08 am »
Yes, it's me.  :o

I have a question, I've wondered this for so long.

Anyway, I have a person that I modeled, and all the body parts are seperate meshes. Arms, Legs, Shoes, Head, and Hands are all seperate, and I'm fine with that. But, there's one big problem, they don't "connect". As in, they don't look smoothed into the whole model, as in, they don't look like some arms look in real life connected to a torso. They look all rigid, and stuffed into the body. But, in models on turbosquid or anywhere really, they look, "connected" and smoothed into the rest of the model.

I'd really like to know how to do this. Thanks!

P.S. I'll show the model I'm talking about if you need more details.

I'll really be thankful if someone can tell me what this is, and how to do it. :)

General Anim8or Forum / Challenges question/request
« on: July 26, 2009, 07:09:52 am »
Challenges question/request: I was wondering, why are mods the only one who get to organize a Challenge? In my opinion, everyone should be able to make a challenge. And any other topic in the board, should be deleted. (And added as a rule that only a real challenge may be posted there) Just wondering, discuss?

Or maybe a sticky topic in the challenges board for ideas for challenges?

Finished Works and Works in Progress / Star Fox Fan Game Project
« on: July 12, 2009, 04:24:32 am »
I've finally learned to make a UV map the way real companies and such do! (I'm about 75% sure) I'm using LithUnwrap. And it's working SO much better than when I textured each part of everything on its own. And I'm loving it, also!

Anyway, to the point of this topic:

I'm working on a Star Fox fan game, and I'm using Cre8or for the game, although I need to get something for my computer before I can start programming. But I'm getting the modeling out of the way first. Plus, I don't have the money right now to get it. :P

Anyway, it's coming along greatly and as planned, and I'd like some comments on this project. I don't want to spend more time uploading here, but you can catch it at my deviantART account.

Clicky
Anyway, I only have one render up currently. But that'll change within the course of the next few days.
Stay tuned! I'll be posting in here every time I upload something new.
Tankz for reading.
