joints not working

I add bones and then set the joints parameters, but when i go to sequence I can only rotate on the x axis. y and z don't work and its hard to do nice animation with out the x and y axis its really frustrating and ill supply some pictures of the problem in my next message

and the pictures arent working.well,ummm... its a cube with all the axis' free no limits.The axis circles are all 360, but only green x axis works.I cant operate y or z from front or top. just left and right.when i get the pics working(if ever)ill supply
